"eww! what's up wit your eyes?" a kid everyone called 'poppa,' laughed and pointed at kouture who was sitting on the bottom of a slide at their local playground.
"and are you disabled or something? why are you walking in crutches?" poppa's friend laughed along.
6 year old kouture had gotten shot about 4 weeks ago.
about 3 cops were gunning a man down and kouture had gotten caught in the crossfire.
right place wrong time.
she was out with her mom getting ice cream in a plaza they loved to visit.
they were walking with each other, hand in hand, smiling and eating their ice cream.
in the corner of kouture's eye, she saw a dark skinned man getting beaten by 3 white cops.
his face was bruised and blood was leaking from each part of his body.
he was crying and yelling.
kouture had looked and seen a young girl being held back by another cop.
she was crying out for them to stop.
before kouture could get a good look at the girl, "daddy!" is all she heard before gunshots started erupting.
she felt a stinging sensation in her body before she passed out.
