Jones O'Connor is a strange kid, he is in year 10 at Greystone High School and is considered a quiet kid and introverted and can seem a bit rude on the outside but nonetheless, he is actually quite a nice kid once you get to know him. However, be warned once he gets comfortable with you he may spend hours of your time talking about murder mystery shows he watches such as The Mystery of Grensdale and Backstabber. One of his most defining traits is that he LOVES a good mystery to solve and aspires to be a detective like his older brother. But enough about that let's get on with the story.
It was an average day, waking up, getting ready, dodging an attack from my older brother then getting breakfast. Walking out into the kitchen I see my mum making breakfast but I notice something off about her today. She seems more distant than usual. "Morning Mum," I say. She seems to snap out of thought as she smiles and greets me "Morning honey did you sleep well?" I nod and start to make myself some toast. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes I decide to look at the news. As I look through stuff I see that there was a murder 3 doors down instantly. I looked through the details. As I got through all the details I saw that it said there was a message on the wall but before I could read it my older brother Josh grabbed the phone out of my hands "Josh give it back!" I say as I jump to get it. Unfortunately for me, I'm not very tall while Josh is 6'4. "Come on, you can do it~" he teased. In retaliation, I kicked his legs as hard as I could making him topple over in pain "HEY! That hurt you little brat!" "Hmpf serves you right '' I say with a grumble. The ping of the toaster alerts me that it's done. I walk over and grab the toast out. brunt. Dammit, I thought as I put it on a plate and spread jam on it. As I ate I zoned out and completely forgot about the murder as I thought about what I was going to do at school.
I get up from the bench and get ready for school. As I get ready to walk out the door Mum stops me. "Remember honey be careful today I don't want you getting hurt. Ok," she says in a worried tone "I know Mum I'll be careful," I say as I give her a quick hug before leaving. As I walk to school I bump into my friend Oscar Smith. "Hey Jones!" he says excitedly "Hey Oscar," I say. "Did you hear what happened last night! Poor Albert, he and my mum were good friends!" he exclaimed in a sad tone. "Oh yeah it was only a few doors down from me," I said with a blank face.
"WHAT!" Oscar exclaimed as he grabbed my shoulders and started to shake me
"ARE YOU OK! THEY DIDN'T COME TO YOUR HOUSE DID THEY!" he continues to shake me as he inspects me
"I'm fine Oscar they didn't come to my house I'm fine" I repeat to reassure him that I'm okay. He lets out a sigh and finally stops shaking me.
"Anyway, how was your weekend?" I say trying to change the subject so he won't harass me with more questions. We talk about random topics as we walk to school. When we arrive at the front gate I see another one of my friends, Alice. She is standing talking to one of the teachers who is scolding her for having her phone out in class on Friday and then skipping out on detention to go play her soccer game.
"But mister Wilson it was the finals and I needed to be there" she whined as she continued to try to talk her way out of another detention.
"Now Miss Spring you know that having your phone out in class is an immediate detention and I don't care if you had a soccer game You did the wrong thing take responsibility for your actions. You have an after-school detention with me today and if you do not show up again it will be extra math homework for the rest of the term." Mr Wilson said, giving her a hard stare. Mr Wilson was stern but he was a good teacher. He may seem mean and grumpy but I quite like him because he can actually teach and doesn't waste time. He was the genetic teacher with grey hair, tall, dull green eyes and square glasses. As Alice walks away she sees us and instantly brightens as she runs over waving at us. Oscar waves back excitedly as she approaches.
