it had now been 2 years since the abrupt ending to mari and niko's break up. the two had never spoke to each other ever since the break up, which was honestly so surprising. mari had struggled emotionally and mentally with this break up, niko was her best friend, and she lost that. it felt like another part of her had been lost. the exact thing happened when she had lost her dad, she couldn't cope, she started going to therapy to get a better. in mari's eyes she thought she was over everything bad that had happened to her, well really she could bring it up without crying in public, only to cry in private, but it worked, she managed to hide her feelings, but that was the only thing that kept her hurting.
of course mari had other friends, some of them were still friends with niko, she didn't mind that at all, why should she control who someone else should be friends with. she still talked to her friends, some of them even got big, some of them lived in mexico, some of them always comforted her when she was at her lowest. but she never liked that, she always thought she was attention seeking, she still thinks it. she never stops thinking it. that's what she is. an overthinker, but recently, she could clear her mind much more quicker instead of drowning in thoughts.
it was her 24th birthday in two days. her 23rd was bad. her 22nd was bad. her 21st was bad. her 20th, her last good birthday. but this year was different, she felt that this could be a good day for her. she was going to be alone. not because she is, but because she wants to. she had moved out of her mother's house after graduating and lived in her own house, she had all the freedom she could ever want. she could eat a whole cake for herself. throw a mini party for herself. binge watch gilmore girls, facetime her friends, scream and shout, do karaoke. she could anything without disturbing anyone.
