"Miss Aldon."

"Miss Aldon!" Violet's ears perked up as she snagged her earbuds from out of her ears. Now what, she thought. Slumping back in her chair, she saw the faces of fellow students staring back at her curiously and the teacher staring at her, but she wouldn't say that the expression she wore was curiosity. Violet wore a neutral expression, not bothering to pay any mind to the staring faces.

"Thank you for your undivided attention, Miss Aldon," the teacher, Mrs. Lilly, spoke sarcastically, anger and irritation present in her voice. Violet snorted a deep raspy snort under her breath, unable to keep it inside her throat. She saw the corner of Mrs. Lilly's mouth twitch slightly.

"Is something funny, Miss Aldon?" she asked, staring directly into Violet's eyes. Violet furrowed her brows and stared right back at her, not breaking eye contact while she spoke.

"No," she said simply, "nothing's funny, Mrs. Lilly." She made sure to spit out her name just to make her all the more irritated. Pushing people's buttons was her specialty, especially when it came to Lilly. Violet knew Lilly hated her, but even someone like her who was great at reading people, couldn't pinpoint the exact reason why. She'd never done something personally to Mrs. Lilly to cause her to dislike her so much, but Violet of course didn't care what Mrs. Lilly thought about her.

"Well," the older woman started, "now that we've cleared that up, could you please come up here and present your essay, Miss Aldon?" Violet's eyes widened slightly, sinking her canine teeth into her bottom lip out of habit. She walked into class expecting the time to come, yet she still felt a pinch of fear at the moment, knowing her mother would never let her see the end of it.

"Don't have it," Violet said quietly. Lilly's mouth twitched again in irritation.

"This essay is worth more than 40 percent of your grade, Miss Aldon." Mrs. Lilly leaned over to grab the bland white coffee mug that rested on her desk, holding it up to take a slow, bitter sip of her pitch-black coffee. Violet cringed, feeling almost trapped under the gaze of the older teacher's eyes.

"Both me and you know your mother will not be pleased with the news that you've forgotten another large assignment in only the span of a few days." It was Violet's turn to be irritated. Who does this bitch think she is? She sat up a bit in her chair, embarrassment creeping its way up and around the crook of her neck and onto her face through a crimson-red flush. Before she could stop herself, she stared right into the eyes of the older brunette and slowly raised her hand. And before she knew it, she was flipping her off. Violet was flipping off a teacher. She saw Mrs. Lilly's eyes widen, as well as her classmates, snickers and immature 'oooooo's' scattering throughout the room.

"Miss Aldon!" Lilly shouted, slamming her coffee cup back down on her desk with so much force the kids around her jumped; Violet was shocked it didn't shatter.

"Office. Now." Violet shoved herself out of her seat, snagging her backpack off of the floor next to her, and flung it around her shoulders, shuffling her way out the door, letting it slam behind her. She could hear Mrs. Lilly's frustrated grumble as she walked further away from the classroom, letting a smirk form on her mouth. She walked past the office and headed for the bathroom, not even bothering to listen to the demands of her teacher. But before she could make it to the bathroom she saw an unfamiliar girl walking around with a brown backpack on, various pins scattered on it. She was peeking through the classrooms looking confused and bewildered. Violet raised an eyebrow at the girl as she watched her wander around without a clue where she was going. Must be the new kid, she thought. She found herself staring at the girl; she was extremely pretty. Violet looked at the dirty beaten-up blue and white hat on her head and scanned her outfit, landing on her scuffed-up black and white Converse that was nearly fully covered by the long, baggy cargo pants that reached the ground. Her eyes then landed on the girl's face. Her complexion was dark and milky with perfectly shaped cheekbones, a round nose, and plump dark brown lips peeking out. Her thick, dark curls stuck out in different places underneath her hat and onto her forehead, a long strand hanging out covering a bit of her piercing honey-golden eyes. Violet's heart skipped a beat at the sight of this new girl, not knowing if she should speak to her or just walk away and continue with her original plan. Before she could decide on what to do, the girl turned her face towards her and made brief eye contact with the green-eyed girl, her bright golden eyes staring into hers. She stared for only a moment with a look of confusion at catching the blonde-haired girl staring at her before Violet whipped around and walked down the hall in awkward, swift movements. She didn't quite know where her feet were taking her, but she continued anyway. Great, now the new girl thinks you're a creep. What the hell, Vi? Violet scolded herself before she heard the intercom blaring above her head.

"Violet Aldon, please come down to the main office."

She groaned, trudging her way down to the office. She didn't need any more trouble today, so she decided to obey.
