Ever After? ( One Direction Fanfic )

Chapter 1: Critter Creek

So, my dad is in the paparrazi business. Has been for years, just as his father had. Since I was an only child, he wants me to follow in his footsteps. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself!

Hi, my name is Savannah, but people call me Sav for short. It's a a weird nickname, but I'm a weird person, so it fits. I'm 17 years of age, and I'm a junior in high school. I go to an expensive private school. I live alone with my dad.. my mom died when I was 14. I don't like talking about it much.. but whatever. Everyone in my school was the stereotypical snotty, stuck-up rich kid. Well, everyone except Riley, that is. Riley is my best friend.. I've known him since we were both in elementary school. He made life an adventure, and we got into so much trouble when we were together. Life was never boring as long as Riley was around! I'm a very outspoken and daring person.. which is probably another reason those bottle blonde bimbos don't like me very much. I'll say what's on my mind, and sometimes that gets me in trouble.

Anyways, back to my story. My dad has been in the pap business for quite a while. Snapping pictures, getting the latest gossip.. it got pretty annoying after a while, but it was his job, so I learned to ignore it. He wants me to carry on in his foot steps and be a photographer as well. I'd be fine with it, but my dilemma is I hate spreading gossip.. and that's basically all paps do. If I were to be a paparrazi, I'd try to get the true story. Not some made up one to make celebrities look bad.

I was laying in my giant beanbag chair when I heard the doorbell ring.

" I got it!! " I yelled as I flew down the stairs and opened the door to see Riley standing outside.

" Where we going this time? " I asked as I grabbed my backpack and walked out the door.

" Critter Creek, " he smiles. 

" What are we waiting for?! " I squealed. I quickly jumped on his back as he started making his way towards Critter Creek. That was one of my favorite places to go.. nobody else went down to Critter Creek, and there were always little birds and squirrels and chipmonks. Trees lined the creek, leaving cool places to sit along with just enough sun to make the temperature feel just right. I was a nature person, I absolutely loved animals and being outside.

We took a back way to get to the creek, so it only took us about five minutes. When we reached our destination, I hopped off Riley's back and immediately walked down to the water. Splashing some on my face, I let the cool water run down my neck. The water was always so refreshing. We sat down in our usual spot and I opened up my backpack. This was my explorers backpack, and I always brought it with me when we went anywhere. Pulling out a piece of bread from a ziplock bag, I started to crumble it and throw it on the grass. Within moments, a variety of different colored birds swooped down and landed just inches from us, pecking at the food that now lay on the soft grass.

" Have you decided if you're gonna do it? " Riley asks me after taking a drink of water.

" Ahh I dunno. You know how I feel about the whole ' paparrazi ' thing. It's just a lot to take in. This summer he wants me to be his intern though.. and I think I'm gonna do it. He's wants to take me to Europe. " I respond, throwing out more pieces of bread for the beautiful creatures.

" Sav, you have to go to Europe! " he replies, wide-eyed. Both of us enjoyed traveling, and Europe was one of the first places on my list.. he knew that. We sat in silence for a while, just taking in the wonders of nature as I pondered the decision I would have to make.

" I guess, " I finally sighed. Paparrazi were known for being merciless soul-suckers that ruined celebrity social lives.. and that's not what I wanted to be known as. I just wanted to explore. Summer was only about a month away, so if I wanted to go I'd have to tell my dad soon so that we could get everything packed.

" Well, I needa head home. Mom has chores for me to do. Catch ya later, Sav! " he gives me a quick wave before disappearing into the trees. I liked being by myself here, it was a great place to think. The animals in their natural habitat, and the sounds of the gentle stream next to me.. it was so relaxing.

After I sat there for a good 20-or-so minutes, I picked up my bags and started my walk back home. As I strolled along, I started humming to U.N.I by Ed Sheeran.. one of my favorites. The sun was setting, causing the sky to turn into a breath-taking swirl of pink and orange, which only made the already lovely weather seem even more perfect. I sighed as I approached my house.. not because I was upset, but because I just loved my life.

" Daaadd! " I yelled once I stepped into my house.

" Savannah! " he shouted back, causing a smile to spread across my face. I loved the relationship I had with my father.

" I'm coming with you to Europe!! " I grinned, jumping onto the counter in the kitchen where he was making dinner.

" The suitcase is in your room, " he winked. " I knew you'd wanna come. "

I quickly gave him a hug before hopping down and dashing up the stairs. Once I stepped into my room, I breathed in the familiar scent of vanilla and cinnomon. There were posters hanging on each colored wall. I had some posters of bands/ singers, actors/ actresses, and adorable animals. Each wall was a different color.. one was a bright green, another a light orange, a baby blue, and a neon pink. My carpet was zebra patterned and I had a giant beanbag chair across from my bed. I loved my room!

Going through my walk-in closet, I grabbed a handful of shirts and threw them into my suitcase. I wasn't a girly-girl, so I didn't care about always looking pretty. I threw in some jeans, colored shorts, and sweat pants along with most of my tanktops, some overshirts, and a few t-shirts that had print on them.

We weren't leaving for about three more weeks.. but I always liked to be ready in advanced. I decided I'd wait to back my hair supplies and my toothbrush and such so that I could use it until we had to go. Ahh I was so stinkin' excited! I couldn't wait to go to Europe.. another adventure waiting to happen!

" I'll miss you so much! " I say into Riley's shoulder. I totally didn't think about not seeing him during the summer. I'd miss my best friend a ton.

" You'll be too busy going on adventures to miss me, " he pulls away, holding me by the arms. He knows me so well! I mean of coarse I would miss him.. but this was a great oppertunity.

" I'll text you everyday.. I promise! " a little grin makes it's way to my lips.

" You better, " he replies with a smile.

I give him one last hug before I get into the taxi. My dad and I were about to head to the airport, but Riley wanted to stop by to say goodbye before we left.

" See you soon! " I wave as we start to drive off.

I bit my lip as we made our way down the street. I knew this was going to be fun.. but it was always hard leaving your best friend. I turned my head back to face the front and let out a sigh. Dad reached over and gave my hand a quick squeeze. I laid my head on the window and let my thoughts wander as we were on our way to the airport.

" Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelts. We will begin lift off in just a few moments. " the voice rang over the speakers.

I had butterflies in my stomach and chills down my arms. I can't believe I got this oppertunity! I quickly sent a text to Riley before turning off my phone.

Message Sent.

Once my phone shut off, I shoved it into my purse and sat back in my chair. My dad gave me a quick pat on the shoulder as the plane started to take off.

" You ready, pal? " he asked, a grin placed on his lips.

" Ready dad! " I reply, returning the smile.

I was on my way to Europe!
