The bright sky outside allowed the sunlight to enter through the window, warming up the otherwise cold office room. Jaeyoung sat at his desk, spacing out and drowning in his thoughts. It wasn’t like he didn't want the money. But he had enough to get by doing something that he loved and technically, he didn’t need it, especially not with the conditions attached to it. He'd rather keep living his life comfortably, instead of throwing himself in such a situation for a bit more money.
However, as he looked at the letter laying on top of his desk, he started to really consider his options.
Just then, his phone rang, showing the name of the person he least wanted to hear from at the moment.
“What?”
A soft laugh was heard from the other side of the line. “Seems like someone is in a good mood. I was just wondering if you’ve decided.”
“It’s madness.”
And it indeed was.
Jaeyoung was too busy to date. He had finally gotten a permanent teaching position after years of hard work and a relationship definitely wasn't something he was looking for.
But then he got the first letter. The letter announced the passing of his grandfather and the inheritance that he had been left with as the sole person to inherit - as long as he met the conditions. The conditions were pretty simple for the most part, he had to have a university degree, a stable job, and own a house . What was confusing to him, was one specific condition he had to meet - to be married.
It wasn’t something Jaeyoung had even thought about before, but with same-sex marriage being legalized and Hyojin constantly reminding him of the deadline he had to meet if he wanted to inherit, he was left with no other option.
Fuck it.
“What do you have to lose?”
Jaeyoung groaned, not expecting such a reply. “What? I thought you’d be the one telling me what I'm doing is insane.”
Yuto sipped his drink, shrugging his shoulders. Jaeyoung wasn't sure what he was expecting as a result of telling Yuto what he planned to do - if it was a harsh reality check or an excited cheer of support - but it did help relieve his worries.
He searched for a reputable, adequate and discreet match-making agency as he didn't want everyone to know what he was resorting to. He didn't take long to find it and soon his profile was complete, along with a broad set of qualifications that would be required of his match - kind, fun, easy-going, smart, good-looking, and most important of all, willing to commit to a rushed marriage of convenience with a duration of a minimum of one year, with the most possible outcome being divorce after that time stamp.
"Please tell me honestly, it's going to be hard to find such a match, right?"
The man typing the information into his computer looked up at his client, forcing a polite smile onto his face. "These are indeed quite intriguing parameters…"
"We won't settle for less."
The worker looked at the two men in front of him, sighing in his heart at the mess he was witnessing. He was to never be found complaining of his client's requests but the current situation was ridiculous!
"Sirs, if I may…"
Hyojin squinted his eyes at the man, leaning forward in an almost threatening manner. "Seungjun, right?"
"Yes."
"Seungjun, isn't there a policy that you mustn't question your clients preferences?"
Preferences your mom.
