The first of Feburary 1982. Michael's point of view. The afton Household. The dining room. 9:32am.
I headed downstairs whistling, ignoring the yelled from behind me. I sat down at the table and pulled the cereal bowl towards me. Lizzie sat next to me, scribbling away furiously with her crayons. I swear I wasn't that weird when I was eleven. I began eating slowly. Watching dad closely. His head was buried in the newspaper per usual. After a few minutes his eyes appeared over the top of the paper. "Micheal, let your brother out of his room." Shit. "Huh?" I looked up, pretending I hadn't heard. "Let your brother out. Now." "I-" "Now Micheal." I sighed rolling my eyes, I stood up and stomped upstairs. I could hear him screaming again. God he's so fucking annoying, I wish he had never been born. I opened the door and he flew forward landing on the ground. Jesus he was crying again, does this kid ever not have tears streaming down his face! I held out my hand to help him up. He looked suspiciously at me. I mean I could understand why, I'm not gonna win any awards for perfect brother. Or even get nominated in the first place. "I'm not poisonous." I said, hiding a smirk. He took my hand and when I held on he went to stand. I let go so he lost his footing and fell. I smirked at him and pushed him towards the stairs.
I sat back down and Evan sat next to dad across from me. Still sniffling. I rolled my eyes and continued eating as Lizzie handed him a bowl. She gave me a dirty look and sat back down. "Any plans for today?" Dad asked turning to the next page of his paper. Evan looked down and said nothing. Of course he had no plans he has no friends to make plans with. He just stays in his room playing with that bear all day. "Could we go to the park?" Lizzie asked, looking up hopefully. "I'm working Elizabeth not today, sorry." Dad said in his usual monotone voice, he didn't sound sorry at all. "My friends are coming over." I said as dad looked up. "Are they?" I sighed. "Can my friends come over please, father." I knew he'd say yes. He just wanted to feel in control. "Yes they may Michael is your room clean?' "Yes." I lied easily, he wont check. He hadnt been in my room for years."Daddy..." Lizzie started after a while of silence. "No Elizabeth." Dad cut her off. "It's not fair! I want to see her!" Lizzie stomped her foot. "Are you still begging to see that dumb robot?" I asked her putting my spoon down. "She's not dumb! And it isn't fair! Daddy made her for me! But he let's the other children go and see her! Pleaseee I won't get close. I'm eleven I know she might not be safe I just want to see her!" "Elizabeth." Dad's voice grew warningly. "But Daddy!" "Enough Elizabeth! I have told you! You will understand when your older! You. Can't see. That. Doll!" Dad bellowed across the table, dropping his paper. Evan moved away from him looking terrified and lizzie looked down her eyes full of tears. "I- I'm sorry." She whispered looking at the ground. Dad was breathing heavily, his face red. He lost control alot like that lately. "Yes, yes you-yes. I'm headed to work, Micheal your in charge. Yes okay...mhm." Dad said distractedly getting up grabbing his briefcase and leaving. The three of us sat at the table in silence. Tears were running silently down Evan's face. Terrified after the outburst. Lizzie sat staring at the ground. I grabbed the dishes threw them in the sink and stormed off to my room, slamming the door shut.
