When I wake up I feel that I’ve lost my toy, my dog.  I look around my room that is covered with drawings off dogs. Some are Labradors, some Sheepdogs, and German Shepherds. I bite my lip cautiously. There’s enough light in the room so I can see where my toy is. There it is, lying uncomfortably on the floor. I reach to pick it up and bring it to my chest, my arms around it; anyway it was my only friend. My heart beats unevenly.

I hear my mum shouting loudly. Every time someone raises there voice I start to tremble. I roll out of bed and go downstairs, where my mum is patiently waiting for me. I sit down. I start gasping for air and perspiration sweeps down my forehead. Has my mum found out?

“Rue, are you alright? Is everything fine in school?” she calmly says to me. My eyes stare at her even though I know it won’t help. Suddenly I began to shake, my knees knocked against each other, hardly and my voice slowly disappeared.

I wasn’t getting much air into my body that’s when I get a shock and fall unconscious on the floor.

I tear open my eyes. The room was full with sun light, not like usual. My room was tiny and it couldn’t even fit my bed inside it.  It had a small window that let a small amount of light beam through it. The rooms walls were bare with no pictures of dogs on them like at home. But...Where was I? I rolled to the edge of the bed, like I always did. But it was harder, my body was stiff and no matter how many times I tried I couldn’t get my fingers to move properly.

“Hello!” someone’s voice echoed around the room. I raised my head above the bed covers to see who it was, since that was that turned to be the only thing I’m capable off in my entire life. No friends, no proper life, nothing. I thought. Tears built in my eyes, my throat closed.

“I am Miss Dawn.” I heard the echo again, “What are you called?”

I thought for a while who I was, then when I was certain that I was right I told the women.

“Rue!” I whisper, but she heard me. I grin because this is not normal, no one at school hears me, and they all pretend they can’t hear me, this is if they are taking some notice of me.

“Are you alright, Rue? How old are you?” she questions nicely. My brain starts to think of two answers of her.

“I’m fine!” I lied, I never feel fine, not even when my mum’s around. The only thing that cheers me up is my toys, my dogs.

“I’m 8.” I say. Now louder and less nervously. Mrs Dawn walked to me where I could see her better but then she left after a nice smile. I stared at the door closing. Then opening.

I saw a long, thin figure. Her long, brown hair covered her  back. It was my mum, her face tired with massive rings under her eyes. She crept to me and gave me a hug, a long hug.

“I’m going to have to leave in a while. I’ll come back. Don’t worry!” She whispered, pausing at the end of every sentence she said. She sang a song, one that I created. I waited till she finished and watched her leave the room.
