Avery's POV:
I'm walking down the hall, it's the first day of school. I stop at my locker and open it. I overhear a conversation between two guys near me.
"Why do we even go to school if we're not even going to use the things they teach us in real life?" One of them asks.
The other open his locker a few down from mine and says. "Because they can."
"All I'm saying is that school is boring." The first one says.
I put a few textbooks into my locker, fix my hair and pull my schedule from my pocket.
"It helps us learn even though it's literally stupid and we have to put up with it." I hear a girl comment.
The first guy huffs and replies. "Maybe I should've gone into the rain and got a cold so I don't have to go to this stupid heck hole."
Out of my peripheral vision I see both of them look over at me.
"But then again, I hate the dark."
And then the first guy walks up and leans against the locker saying, "Well, well, well, I'm Xander, and you, my little ducking. are ravishing."
The first guy makes a face, grabbing his books from his locker and storming off.
I shut my locker and turn to Xander. "Uh- hi?"
"Oh gosh." says the girl.
"Your hair looks so soft and your eyes remind me of the drying blood."
Well that happened. What the heck is wrong with the guys in this school, gosh. I awkwardly stare at him for about 5 seconds before walking off down the hall quickly. That was weird.
I enter my history classroom and sit down at my desk, grabbing my notebook and pencil out of my backpack. Slumping back in my chair, I toss my hair out of my face and tuck my hair behind my ear on the right side of my head. That's when I notice the same guy I saw in the hallway. No, not the one who talked to me, the one who stormed off. Out of the side of my eye I see him staring, trying to make it subtle, but it's obviously not working.
I'm then started as my teacher, Mrs. Lane, speaks, clapping her hands together. "Ok folks, we have a new project." She looks around at everyone, most students not even paying attention, staring at their desk or the wall. I wouldn't blame them. After all, it is Monday. Mondays do suck.
"This requires pairs." Mrs. Lane continues, "And you'll be presenting this to the whole class."
That's when I notice the guy who called me a 'ravishing little duckling', pull a KitKat out of his backpack and bites into it like a psycho. I make a face, but still listening to what Mrs. Lane is saying about the project.
"You will be researching a protest of your choice from the unit we've been working on this month, and making a PowerPoint with slides on every aspect of it."
Xander then raises his hand as I fiddle with the ring on my finger.
"Is it just me or is that kid right there kinda creepy?" Ginny points out, gesturing to the brown haired guy who looks like he wants to murder everyone in the room.
I glance over at him for a second as he lays his head on his desk before looking back at Ginny. "Kinda." I shrug. "I just wanna get this year over with. I know it's only September but still."
