Prologue

PROLOGUE

Life really is like a roller coaster ride. You will encounter highs and lows. You'll get to feel all of the emotions in the world. Today could be the positive one and tomorrow could be the opposite. We don't know when life will fuck you.

Life is full of uncertainties. All you have to do is master how to ride with it. Because if you don't, you'd definitely fall and get broken, unprepared.

With this life I am living, I'm sure as hell that I never felt this uncertain of my decision. I've been so confident my whole life and to feel this nervous felt so foreign.

It gave me chills thinking that maybe this time, destiny wants to play me again. No. I can't fuck all of my plans this time. I'll win him over at all costs!

Questions filled my mind out of curiosity. Of how he is. If he's still mad at me after all that had happened. And how is he after all these years.

"Engineer, nandito na po si Mr. Devorasco." My secretary informed me over the intercom.

I withdrew a heavy breath and tried hard to calm myself. Fuck. I never felt this nervous my whole life!

I cleared my throat and fixed my posture. "Let him in,"

Pinakatitigan ko ang pintuan ng aking opisina. Nang makitang pabukas na iyon ay mabilis kong ibinaling ang mata sa ilang tambak na papeles sa aking lamesa at nagkunwaring maraming ginagawa.

Calm the heck down. He must not know how excited and at the same time, nervous you are to see him again.

Unti-unti akong nag-angat ng tingin sa kaniya na tila ba ngayon lang napagtantong naroon siya't nakatitig sa akin.

My heart ache at the scene. Gone those sweet smiles he always gives me whenever our eyes meet. Gone those teasing eyes he always shows when he caught me staring at him. His features changed... grew more mature and define.

My studious guy has grown and achieved a lots of things in life. And he did it all without my me.

Darien, where did those promises go?

"Oh, so you're seeing your future with me, huh?" I teased when i saw what's inside the little paper bag he gave me as his christmas gift for me. Pangalawa na ito, actually. Ako amng nabunot niya noong year-end celebration namin sa school at niregaluhan niya ako noong paborito kong stuff toy.

We're at the rooftop of their house. The sky were full of stars and the moon was full, shining brightly.

It's a gold necklace with a ring as its pendant. And when I said it's a ring, I didn't mean it as the ordinary ones or just a normal jewelry. It looks simple yet the little diamonds embedded at both edges of it looks dashing as it sparks as light hits it. And boy, the inner part of it has name carved on it.

Devorasco.

"Why? You don't?" he fired back at me and hugged me more from the back.

"For someone whose eyes were always in a book, I never thought you'd really fall for me."

My eyes settled at the moon as I feel his embrace. My parents weren't here yet my christmas felt so complete.

"We'll grow old together. We're still young, yes, but I'm already so sure of you," he said softly. "Don't get pressured because of that ring. I just want to give it to you right now."

"Mahal mo na ako? Parang kailan lang no'ng sinusungutan mo ako, ah?"

"Just wear it on your finger once you're ready. I'll marry you immediately," he said ignoring my teasing. "I'm so in love with you, Minty.

"Paano 'pag dumating 'yong araw na hindi na kita gusto?" I challenged.

"I'll make you fall in love with me again,"

I chuckled inwardly and tried to calm myself. Bitterness filled my insides.

"I heard you've already decided about the time and venue, Miss Cariaga."

What's with the formality, Darien? How come you can call everyone by their names... give them nicknames but not to me now? Where's the nickname you've given me? Come on, call me the way you used to!

I want to tell him all of that. I want to reprimand him to do that... to treat me that way but I didn't. I can't. Because I don't have the rights to ask him to do that now.

"My secretary had already explained to me about the details," he said without looking at me, eyes still at the piece paper I handed him. "I'll try to finish reviewing this tonight and maybe on our next meeting, I'll be able to present to you my suggestion about it."

"H-How are you?"

I saw him stop on his track for a moment. My heart rejoiced. Baby, I still have effect on you. Please tell me didn't really fell out of love. That you're still the same guy I know.

That studious guy I've met seven years ago. That studious guy who suddenly can't go to school without me. 

He gave out a loud sigh and closed the what he's holding like he's done. He stood up and so am I.

"I think everything's have been settled. It's nice meeting you again, Engineer." He smiled at me but I know it's a fake one. "I need to take my leave now,"

"Darien—"

He stopped from walking and glanced back at me to cut me off. "I'm glad you've achieved your dream— to be one of the well-known professionals in the country. However, I do badly hope that the next time we meet again, you're already professional enough to know how to address me properly."

It felt like a strong punch thrown to me that made my heart bleed. My lips quiver and my tears won't stop falling after he left.

Baby, it was all a misunderstanding. Why won't you listen to me? Why do you have to lie and hurt me this way?

Nanginginig kong inabot ang cellphone ko at tinawagan si Daddy.

"Yes, Bridgette?"

"Daddy," nanginig ang boses ko.

"Anak, what's wrong? Why is your voice shaking? Did something happen—"

"D-Daddy," I cut him off with a sob. "Payag na po ako. I... I'll m-marry him,"

Lyam Darien Devorasco, just you wait and see. I'll prove it to you. I'll make your heart beat for me again. I'll make you mine once more and I don't intend to let you go this time. I'll seduce and crawl my way to your heart again until the only choice you have left is to love me back.
