Chapter 6

I was lying peacefully in my bed, as if I was in paradise. Then I heard Mae (mother in Thai I think, I used Google translate, ok? I don't speak Thai and I don't know the alphabet either. My deepest appologies if I offended any Thai people out there and feel free to correct me if you do speak the language) scream at me, "River! Wake up! You're gonna be late for school!"

Shit!

I sprung out of bed as quick as I could and slapped my clothes on and sprinted downstairs where Mom was making breakfast. "Morning sleepy head, you got time for breakfast still." "Sorry, I was having a real nice dream!"

"Uh-huh, and what was this dream about?"

"Frog-dammit I can't remember!"

My moms have told me about their adventures in Amphibia and it sounds like a really cool place! And all of them admitted that they wanted to go back but unless they're friend Terri gets back to them with some sort of new energy source, then unfortunately they won't. "Hmm, what a coincidence... anyway I'm making Eggs and Bacon, do you want toast on the side or not?"

"Yes please, thanks Mom!" I said running off to the dining table, Eggs and Bacon are my favourite and so I didn't want to miss that. Momma comes into the room looks like she hadn't slept in a week, "Oh, hi Momma, did you sleep well last night?" I said dumbly.

"Eh, not so great. I'll tell you 'Bout it later Sash, I just need some coffee." she groaned.

"Woah, Marcy. What happened to you?" Mae walked in.

"I'll tell ya about it later Anne, I just need my coffee!" she whined.

"Hey Kiddo, you wanna take your breakfast into the living room? Me and your moms wanna talk." Mom said.

"K, hope ya feel better Momma!" and I sped off to the living room. I never get to eat meals outside the dining table, so I was thrilled, but I also knew something was up if my parents wanted to let me eat my messy breakfast in the living room. "Was it another nightmare?" Mae whispered in a sombre tone just loud enough for me to hear. "Yes..." Momma cried. Then I heard her begin to sob, "I'm so sorry,"

"Hey, hey, we forgave you a long time ago, ok? So don't you beat yourself up about what you did 30 years ago." Mom said.

"It's not that! I hurt you, Sash! And I almost killed you, Anne! I could have lost both of you! Because I wanted some fantasy, I don't even know how you would..."

"I'm gonna stop you right there Marce. We love you and we always will you, dumbass." mom interrupted her. "Yeah, that wasn't your fault! It was the Core's, don't blame yourself for being tricked." Mae continued

Who or what is 'the Core'?

Ok, I admit that had only told me brief stories about Amphibia and not the actual storyline that led them home again. "I was gonna tell you later, but Terri and their team found a surge of energy on the other side of the country that has similar properties as the Calamity portal! So, they're bringing us to their site to redirect the energy to the site so we can see if it could be used as a portal to Amphibia!" Mom blurted out as the others gasped. "Why didn't you start with that?! I'd get to see my newt moms again!" Momma cried (in happiness this time).

"And I'd get to see the Plantars!" Mae screamed.

Portal? Like the one that got them into Amphibia the first place?

"Ok, let's not get our hopes up. It could be just some rogue meteorite, or a new portal!" Mom squealed and they all celebrated quietly probably hoping I wouldn't hear them (jokes on them).

I'm not missing this! I follow them!

And so, after the bus had left with my parents none the wiser, I hid in a nearby bush until I saw my three moms walk out of the door and into Mom's car, which I followed on bike with a motorbike helmet that I got for Christmas on so they couldn't see my face. I could even hear their loud K-Pop music from where I was, and I bet the 3 nearest neighbourhoods could too! Though once we were outside of the city, I tried to mask my exhaustion until they realised, I was following them. That was when they tried to lose me by speeding up, thankfully for me, I am the fastest on bike at school with my highest being 78 mph. Mom then swerved round the back of me and honked the horn. "Who are you and why the fuck are you following us?" Mom shouted.
