The castle was a maze. So many twists and turns. There were three floors. Luckily we only stayed on the second one.
We arrived at a door, where Prince Alex proceeded to knock. I don't know why, because he just let himself in afterwards.
"Alex! Zoe!" A man who I believed to be Ryder said.
"H... How do you know my name?" I asked, scared.
There was silence for a second, but Prince Alex and Sir Ryder seemed to be communicating.
"Alex has told me about you. He says how you are the perfect little slave." He said.
"O...oh." I responded.
I looked up at Sir Ryder, and saw that his eyes were completely black. Midnight black. I gulped.
I started backing away, and hit the wall.
"What's wrong?" He asked in a menacing tone of voice.
~*~ flashback | into Zoe's memories~*~
"What's the matter little one? Scared?" Asked a shadowy figure who was towering above my small form as I sat there, terrified on the floor.
"P...please, Sir. I... I don't know what I did wrong." I squeaked.
"If you were mine you'd be dead by now. Five infractions in the past week?" He asked.
"I... I'm sorry Sir. I didn't know." I whispered.
I looked into his eyes and they were black as night. He pulled out something. And struck it across my stomach harshly.
"No! Please don't kill me!" I whispered.
~*~ back to present day~*~
"Zoe? Zoe snap out of it!" Said Prince Alex.
"Zoe snap out of it or I'll... Or I'll punish you." He threatened.
This got my attention. And I snapped out of my daydream.
"No! Please don't kill me!" I screamed. I was on the floor, still against the wall, huddling to myself.
"Zoe, what's wrong?" Asked Sir Ryder, coming near to help me up.
"No! Don't touch me!" I yelled.
""Zoe, what's wrong?" He asked again.
"Your eyes. Th... They were black." I stammered.
"That happens when I get angry." He told me.
"Were you angry at me? I asked.
"No. Zoe, I barely even know you. Why would I be angry at you?" He asked.
"I... I don't know. I've just heard stories about vampires becoming mad for no reason and taking it out on whatever human is near them." I told him.
He looked into my eyes, but I quickly looked down.
"She won't even look at me, Alex." He said.
"She's a slave, Ryder. She's not supposed to look at you." Prince Alex said.
Ryder put his hand under my chin and forced my head up. My eyes met his for a split second before forcefully returning to the ground.
"Ryder." Said Prince Alex, stepping in between us. "Why do you want her to look at you?"
"I need to know she trusts me." He replied.
"You need to be careful Ryder." Alex said, shoving him away from me and towards the bed. Their words were barely audible, but I could still pick up what they were saying.
"You need to be more careful Ryder. She doesn't remember you. I don't want you to scare her. She needs time to adjust." The prince said.
"Fine." Ryder replied.
"Why do you care?" I asked. This statement shocked all three of us.
"What?" Asked Alex.
"I... Why do you care for a human slave?" I asked, standing up.
"It's not your place to ask that." Prince Alex said.
"It may not be my place. But I need answers." I told him.
He walked over to me and shoved me against the wall. He was holding me up by my neck.
"Why do you fool with me? Huh? Acting like you're so powerful. Sweetheart, you need to remember who you are and where you are." He whispered.
"I just want to know why you care so much for me." I said.
"Because, sometimes you're worth the trouble. But not right now." He said. He dropped me, I fell to my knees, and took in a long breath.
"now stay here and don't move while I talk to Ryder. Got it?" He asked menacingly.
I nodded.
"Ah, remember the rules. I always want to hear words." He said.
"Y...yes, m...master." I stuttered.
"Good." He said.
He got Ryder and left me in the room alone.
