Dance, sell drugs, dance some more, and translate a Greek text for Class the next day. That's how Rose Halister's nights go every weekend. During the week she attends classes at Edgewater University studying classic literature and helps her friend, Amiri, with her art projects. For the past few months, a stranger has been conversing with her through the margins of one of her favorite 18th-century books, Treasure Island. It all seems basic and perhaps a little romantic, until the stranger starts asking weird questions, about her, her job, and the murders that have been popping up around the city. Does the stranger know she's involved? Perhaps not, though the questions are getting oddly specific.

Ah Jonas, the man with pitch-black hair and glowing amber eyes. The man with all the tattoos and piercings you could imagine. Of course, you can't forget the standoffish personality that has a certain soft spot for animals. The bad boy from your favorite books personified in one glorious man. This time though, he's the hero. He's protected this world from daemons for a millennium, and he doesn't plan to stop now. Even when he finds himself distracted by a mortal stranger he writes to in the margins of a library copy of Treasure Island. Even the mortal's scent on the book leaves him curious, but the stranger seems to not be giving him any answers to who they are. He grows infinitely more curious once that familiar scent starts popping up on decimated bodies throughout the city. The very bodies he's in the city to investigate.

We can't forget Jonas's extremely gorgeous best friend, Jack Alden, either. His caramel brown hair fitted with his piercing blue eyes and olive skin gives him a stark contrast to Jonas. Even his personality is in stark contrast. He easily picks up a conversation with anyone and where anyone is concerned he is a big teddy bear. A teddy bear with equally as many tattoos as his friend. Jack has been protecting the world from Daemons for just as long as Jonas has and has more reasons than most to hate the creatures from the dark. When daemon attacks bring them both to the city he finds that the city holds a lot more than the one daemon, more than one trouble.

These three beautiful creatures will travel the world of mystery and murder apart together, whether they like it or not. Of course, they can also get to explore each other too. They are all just one touch away from obsession.
