Hi, I'm Sapphire I have long naturally wavy hair, with a deep blue-purple eyes. Weird, right? I have a medium build and am around 5'2". I have three sisters, Lilian, Ashton and Danielle, as well as my brother, Erebus. I live with my step mom, Kathy, and my dad, Jake. My family is...different. We aren't your every day normal family. I thought I was normal, well except for my unexplainable strength and speed.

Every family has their secrets. My families is a bit more complicated.

What would you do if you found out that your whole family knew your secret, but you didn't? That the one thing that put them all in danger was knowing? How would you feel to have them taken from you in your time of need?

This is my story. My life.

"Sapphire? Hey time to wake up." I feel a gentle nudge on my shoulder. Ughh. Why. Can't. I. Just. Sleep? That's when I slowly open my eyes and my gaze is instantly on the calendar onthe wall directly behind my brother,Erebus'' shoulder. It was Monday, September 9. Fully coming to my senses, I throw the covers off me and onto my brother, Erebus. I heard him chuckle and I pushed him off my bed.

"How could I forget what today was?! It's the most important day of the year!" At least that was what I had come to believe. I was supposed to get something special this year. I have been waiting for this day for so long. When I was ten years old, my parents told me that when I reached the age of eighteen, they would give me something special. No amount of prodding or poking would entice any answers out of them. Also, it's the first day of school.

So now here I am scrambling out of bed and heading to my closet, picking out my outfit for the first day of school today. I stick with simple blue jeans and white button up, covered with a gray-almost black hoodie. I turn and remembered Erebus is still in my room.

I throw my clothes on my bed and rush to get him out of my room. "Kathy said to get down to breakfast, now. Her and dad got a surprise for you. Happy birthday, Sapphire." I slam the door in his face not bothering to thank him. I'll thank him later. I ran to my bathroom and brushed my teeth and hair. Then I threw on my clothes. After getting ready for school I made my bed and threw my night clothes into my hamper. When I was satisfied with the look of my room I raced down stairs to meet my family in the kitchen.

When I enter, my siblings are already surrounding the table, all ready for school. Looks like I'm running a little late. I see Kathy run in with a plate of chocolate chip pancakes, just as I'm taking my seat. "These are for you, sweetie. Enjoy!"

"Thanks Kathy they look delicious!" And they were delicious. They had to be the best pancakes I've ever had, besides my dads that is. No one could cook like my dad, he is the best. Some would say that I am biased, since he is my dad, but I really mean it. My dad had competed in many different cooking competitions. He really knows how to make some good food.

I looked at the clock over the kitchen door. " Hey, I've got to go, Jay is picking me up today." I hug all my sister even Danielle, who isn't very fond of hugs. Then my parents before running out the door.

"Sapphire, just remember to come home DIRECTLY after school today. We have a surprise for you!" Dad yells before I grab my purse and phone off the table by our door and sprint across our drive to meet Jay. As always he's driving his classic Chevy. I see him wave as I open his door and hop in.

Jay is my best friend. We have been friends since forever. He is always by my side when I need him. He was the first person to accept me here, especially because I'm different than everyone else.

"How is the birthday girl?" He asks. Knowing he's hiding something, I just raise my brows in suspicion.

"What did you do, Jay?" I ask just as I shut the truck door and am about to put on my seat belt. "You know I hate surprises."

"Well... I sorta, kinda, maybe got you a present." He says while holding out a small rectangular box. I take the box, not sure if I want to open it.

"You didn't have to." I was saying as I unwrapped the small box. Instantly I knew what it was. I look at Jay. "You REALLY didn't have to get this for me." It was a silver bracelet with a sun and moon charm on it. I had seen it a couple of weeks ago in a store but I didn't have the money to buy it.

I tried to hand him the box back but he refused to take it back. "I bought it for you, it's yours. Besides the store has a no return policy."

With a sigh and a hint of a smile, I slipped it out of the box and held it out for him along with my wrist. He instantly clamped it on. It was a perfect fit. "Thank you so so much. I love it."

I give him a quick hug. "Only the best for my best friend." And with that we were off for school. Another year beginning in my own personal prison.

Some would say that's just a exaggeration. You have no idea. The things I go through every day. The things my parents know about but don't want me to do anything about. School sucks.

The ride to school took about five minutes to get there. It was a silent trip all the way there. So I plugged my headphones into my phone and turned up my music.

I glanced out my window, and I see a teenage boy staring back at me through the trees. His eyes blending with the leaves, his clothes all black.

Even as we drive by, I can see his eyes follow me. Almost as though he was looking into my soul. I blink once and he's gone. I knew what I saw, but I kept my mouth shut and fiddled with my new bracelet Jay gave me moments before.

Something tells me it's gonna be a long and strange year....
