TW: Brief mentions of bulimia

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
September 1st 2009
It was yet another school year and once again, Book was struggling to find any reasons to step through the gates of "Dream High". She thought that was a joke of a name, if anything the school should have been called "Nightmare High" considering the absolute shithole that it was. She believed that everyone was capable of change but as she walked through the halls, she was reminded of why she kept finding this hard to believe. Kids were fighting and shouting insults, it seemed like no-one had changed since middle school. Book just hoped that maybe Senior year would be the year that everyone changed.
Time skip to lunchtime
*Crash*
"Oops."
Of course no-one would change. Once again, Book found herself standing in the lunch line, her tray and diary on the floor after Pen Sweeney, the football team's line-backer, had smacked them out of her hands. He'd been doing this for 8 years.
"What a dick." She muttered to herself
"What did you say to me, skank?" He replied, glaring at her
"Nothing." She stammered
She started to write in her diary instead until she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around and smiled when she saw Ice Cube, her best friend for basically her whole life.
"Hey Icy!" She said
"Hey, we still on for movie night?" Ice Cube replied
"Yeah!"
"I rented the Princess Bride!"
Ruby laughed, "Again? Wait, don't you have it memorised by now?"
"What can I say? I'm a sucker for a happy ending."
Then Eraser Kelly, the football team's quarterback, walked up to the two of them and smacked Ice Cube's tray out of her hands.
"Icy Dumptruck, wide load!" He yelled as the tray hit the floor. This made Book snap. She tried to stay out of conflict most of the time but she couldn't just let her best friend be made fun of.
"What's wrong with you?!" She shouted
Eraser turned to glare at her, "I'm sorry, are you actually talking to me?"
Book was starting to feel nervous but she continued talking, "Yes I am, what gives you the right to pick on my friend? Look at you, you're a high school has-been waiting to happen! A future gas station attendant."
Eraser decided to ignore Book's rant and instead just said, "You've got a zit right there." While pointing to her forehead, making the entire cafeteria laugh at her.
Today clearly wasn't her day, so Book decided to spend the rest of her lunch period in the bathroom. She didn't look up from her diary when she heard a group of people walk in until she realised who they were. They were the alliance, the three most popular girls in the entire school. The group consisted of Bubble, the head cheerleader with a rich dad, who had a light blue bob and wore a yellow blazer and ribbon, Match, who wasn't really known for anything but having implants that her mom paid for, who had short red hair and wore a green blazer and scrunchie and Pencil, who was the leader of the group, she had long pink hair and wore a red blazer and scrunchie. As they walked in, the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch. Yet, for some reason, Book decided to stay put.
The trio walked over to a stall and Match started throwing up in a toilet. Book cringed at the sound but the other 2 girls clearly weren't phased.
"Grow up Match, bulimia is so last year" Pencil said, rolling her eyes.
However, Bubble seemed more concerned, "Maybe you should see a doctor"
Match sighed, "Yeah, maybe I, like, should."
As the Alliance was talking, a teacher walked into the bathroom. Her name was Miss Fleming but she insisted that the students referred to her by her first name, Leafy. She started to tell them that they were late to class and the Alliance tried to argue with her, but Book wasn't focused on what they were saying. She was too busy writing on a slip of paper
"Um, actually, Leafy, all 4 of us are out on a hall pass" She said while holding out the slip.
Leafy took the slip from Book and looked at it for a few seconds, trying to see if it was a real hall pass or not but eventually gave it back to her, "I see you're all listed, hurry up and get where you're going."
Before Leafy had even left, Pencil had snatched the slip from Book's hand and was inspecting it
"This is an excellent forgery," she looked up at Book "who are you?"
"Book Sawyer," she said while holding out her hand for a handshake but putting it back at her side when it wasn't returned, "I crave a boon."
"What boon?"
"Let me sit at your table at lunch, just once, no talking necessary. If people think you guys tolerate me, then they'll leave me alone." The other 3 girls started laughing so Book continued talking, "Before you answer, I also do report cards, permission slips and absence notes."
Soon, the Alliance was talking about how Book could be made more 'beautiful' and, before she knew it, she was leaving the school to buy a new outfit to fit in with the rest of the Alliance.
The 4 girls arrived back at school during a passing period so everyone could see Book walking through the halls with her new blue 'Alliance outfit'. She couldn't believe that so many students were talking about her yet none of them were making fun of her. This year was going to be the best.
Famous last words. In all seriousness, I'm so glad to finally get this fic out after 4 months of writing (to be fair, school made me procrastinate a lot). If you don't already know Heathers, this fic will be much darker than my previous fics. Trigger warnings will be provided at the start of each chapter but be warned. Chapter updates may be slow due to school.
