If I had known that Irrelevant would lure me with the promise of food into his cult, I would have probably...no, I still would have followed him. Even if I do find myself in many a situations, such as the one I am in now where cutting off a demons head means not only I, but some other unfortunate soul who is incapable of protecting themselves, can live another day, I would still follow Irrelevant. The food is good, the bed is comfortable, and the protection I can offer for others and myself is top notch. Not to mention, the boys I am working alongside are pretty handsome themselves, though, one is full of himself, one can be a bit rude, and the other, well, is a little gloomy.
Tengen Uzui. An 18 year old, man?, boy who already has three wives with the excuse that having children is his goal, but I feel like he's just a fairly active person. On top of that, his flamboyancy and fabulousness is out of this world.
Then we have Obanai, who honestly is sort of a mystery to me. He is currently 16. Though I do not see him as a good partner in life because, well, like I said, there is just something about him I can't really place...I bet he's really kinky and I do not want to get dragged into that.
Last, and maybe least...nah, he's cool just a little shy, I think. We have Giyu who is the youngest at 14. Even if he is a year younger than me, it does not make him any less competent on the battlefield. It does make him less competent in human interactions it seems though.
Giyu is the newest introduction to the pillars. Tengen has already been a pillar for a little over three years, and Obanai has been a pillar for about two years. I'm fairly new to the business, so I can relate to Giyu the most, I think. Sometimes I don't know what he's thinking and he just stares off into space like it's about to eat him, and he wants it to.
Anyways, with the logistics finally out of the way, you can now witness my amazing breathing technique! There are so many, 14 to be exact that are all branched from the main 5 elements. So, a minor handful to choose from. However, I decided to focus on enhancing my agility and speed, so naturally thunder breathing was the way to go. While this demon I am fighting comes flying towards me it gives me the ability to have this running dialogue in my head while still being able to dodge to the side like a pro.
Their feet rapidly adjust to my sidestep and bend in an unnatural way, causing the sound of broken bones to enter my ears. Ewy. I quickly unsheathe my sword to block the sudden attack, cutting off their foot in process. I duck below the rest of their lunging limb and slice their torso in half. I then take their neck in a precise motion.
As their dismembered body falls to the ground, and they slowly fade to dust accompanied by words of sorrow and regret, also words I have heard all too much and have lost sympathy for, words I'll leave for someone who is much kinder than I to care about, I sheathe my sword.
Another day, another demon down, and another sore body to rest.
"Good job newbie, you make the job easier by the day! It's hard to believe that you only just become a pillar with those experienced moves," Tengen, who was sitting in the background apparently assessing my skill, chimes in. And no shit, Irrelevant trained me like a dog to learn the basics, the non basics, the weirds, the randoms, the never gunna be used, and literally everything until I wanted to behead him myself.
"Thanks. If you had arrived, why not lend a friendly helping hand?" I try to make my face as kindly as possible, but it's hard when you are tired, frustrated, and most of all, hungry.
"You seemed to be handling it pretty well on your own. And hey! Who am I to deprive you of a another victory?" Good point. I would have been peeved either way, whether he helped me or not. I'm a difficult and spoiled person it seems.
"You know, thank you for that, I appreciate the support and trust you have in my capabilities as a fellow Hashira," this is the truth, I'm not trying to sound sarcastic but it definitely sounds that way.
"And hey, like the new get up. You become a Hashira and your clothes also seem to upgrade as well," he lets out a chuckle. I look down. Well, it's not bad. I refuse to wear a skirt while fighting demons. One, I don't want to flash anyone nor want to have to worry about flashing anyone in the middle of fighting for my life, and two, am I the only person in the world that sees knees as knees? Although, he may also be referring to my haori. Irrelevant gave it to me as a gift after becoming a Hashira. It starts off as a nice clean white from the shoulders down to my mid back, then begins to fade into a gentle purple that contains wisteria flower embroidery. When he gave it to me he said something on the lines of "now not only will you repel humans, but also the demons." Asshole. But true.
"Lets head back, the sun is rising soon, means our job is done for the night. Besides, my handsome wives are probably dying to see me, the God of Flashiness and Festivals!" He whips his head to the side in a dramatic gesture. Man, I'm tired.
"Lets just head back," I pass by him gloomy as he is still standing in his swanky pose.
"Your totally dragging down my flashy vibe, I can't be seen with you if you behave this way."
"Please, let me make it to the estate before I lose more of my brain matter."
We start our short jaunt back to the estate, where we run into another fun friend.
"Ah, Giyu! How was your night of fun?" I ask seeing him emerge from the darkness of the forest to join the path. When he turns around his face is covered in blood. "AH! What in the heavens happened to you?!" I run over to him and quickly start rubbing his face on my shirt to clean it, hoping to find the wound in the process. He is a bit taller than me even at his younger age, so in order to do this I had to grab him by the cheeks and pull his face down to my level. A bit of an inconvenience if you ask me.
"Stop. I'm fine. It's not mine."
"You're so young and yet you come back with a face full of blood," I finish wiping his face and see that he is perfectly unharmed.
"Seems like an eventful night for you young man! Are you ready for some fantastic company on the way back to the estate now?"
"I just want to sleep."
"I feel you, lets get back as soon as possible so we don't get even more drained," me referring to Tengen's overly excited and strong personality that is charming, but also a little tiring, especially right after a night of demon hunting.
The estate comes into sight, and as we are all rounding the corner of the outer wall we are met with another fun face, or actually, covered face.
"I was just about to go out and retrieve your bodies for burial, but looks like my work is already done," Obanai, fully dressed but showing signs of bed head, definitely just woke up. So not fair. I wanted to sleep this night too, but getting rusty now is not a good path to take so soon in the Hashira game.
"You think a simple demon could kill me? I am a God, remember?"
"Oh jeez, I'm going back to bed," Obanai turns around and Tengen quickly catches up to him to plant his godly wisdom in his head before he can escape his sermon. Giyu and I slowly follow behind them as we enter the safety of the estate. The sun rises quietly, burning the blood from my clothes, causing a light sizzling sound, and bringing the birds to a gently song. These are the early days of my Hashira ship, I can't wait for more to follow, and I can't wait for more to join are little forming family.
