Fast forward to the day in the courtyard, Emiko confronted the rest of the members without Ranran and Shinichi present.

"Ranran knew where the nuclear plans are hidden, so she is going to point it out to The Snake as a lure, then have him arrested, ain't she?" The observant Emiko confronted Takuma.

Takuma, momentarily taken aback by Emiko's sudden entrance and astuteness, nodded slowly.

Michio's gaze shifted from Takuma to Emiko, impressed by her deduction. "You've got quite the mind, Emiko. You picked up on a lot more than most people would."

After sharing what she overheard yesterday, "I tend to learn things during my days in collecting intel from others," Emiko replied, her expression serious. "Anyway, is that the reason why they had Takuma announce to everyone not to set foot near them today, right?"

"They didn't have much of a choice," Takuma nodded in confirmation. "One has to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of everyone else in case things don't go as planned. This is an incredibly high-risk operation, and they want to minimize any potential collateral damage."

"I don't know whether to be amazed by their intelligence or be horrified that those two 6-year-olds are playing with fire," Junko pushed her glasses upward.

Emiko's sentiment was a mixture of awe and worry. "Playing with fire might be an understatement. But given the circumstances, they're the best chance we've got."

"Even so...."Takuma's gaze shifted from one face to another, each reflecting a mix of admiration and concern. "I don't know if it was a good idea for us to simply let things happen as it is."

"Eh?"

"Cause if you think of our previous major case in 'The Last Laugh'.....we didn't really do a good job, didn't we?"

The mention of "The Last Laugh" casts a sombre shadow over the courtyard.

When they figured out who the killer was back then, Ranran was trapped in a burning abandoned mansion with an explosive set up, forcing Shinichi to rush into the mansion to rescue her, because the rest of the children were too intimidated by the angry flames.

"No, we did not," Michio conceded, his voice tinged with regret. "Ranran almost died had Shinichi not rushed into the burning building. While all of us were forced to wait outside helplessly."

Emiko's expression turned pensive. "We were all utter cowards."

"In the first place, those two are built differently compared to the rest of us," Junko crossed her arms at them, "We are born normal after all."

"You talked as if they were robots," Emiko scoffed as she chucked at Junko.

Junko shrugged. "Well, they're definitely not your average 6-year-olds."

"She has a point," Michio adds, "I mean, I don't know of anyone their age who would inspect dead corpses, organize emergency routes when there was a serial killer on the island, or even go after them despite knowing they are risking their lives."

"Like that time Ranran secured a penthouse for herself at that island," Junko remembered.

"Or that time she flew an aeroplane and saved me and Mouri," Emiko recalled.

"Plus that time Shinichi led us to use a gun and organize a shootout at some gallery." Takuma thinks.

The memories of their past cases lingered in the air, a stark reminder of the dangers they had faced and the risks they had taken. The weight of their experiences hung heavy on their shoulders, a testament to the extraordinary nature of their group.
