Deadly Attraction

A word from the wise? If something sounds too good to be true, then it is. Plain and simple. I am telling you because I know. So don't say I didn't warn you. Now let's start from the beginning of how I learnt that lesson.

I got the deal of a lifetime on a two-bedroom apartment that I accepted without hesitation. Because at that moment in my life, I just wanted out of my hometown. I wanted a fresh start away from all the whispers and judgemental stares. I wanted freedom.

How naive was I back then? To believe that freedom comes without a cost? As it turns out I just traded one prison for another. Now instead of the confines of a small town, I am literally confined behind bars. Cold, hard, stainless steel bars, an actual cell.

How did I end up here in this position one might ask? Well, being a sheltered mama's girl I was on a mission to prove that I could survive on my own. Maybe my desperation was the reason I ignored all the warning signs or maybe it was just plain old stupidity on my part. Either way, I failed to acknowledge the fact that this deal was too good to be true. I failed to notice how overly excited my landlord was to show me around the apartment. Or even recognize the sigh of relief that left his lips as I signed the lease for the next 12 months.

The deal was great, I mean come on, a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment with utilities included within the confines of my artistic budget was beyond amazing. The only thing wrong was that the landlord who pitched me that amazing once-in-a-lifetime deal failed to mention two things. One, that the walls were paper thin and provided no privacy at all. Two, the deadly gorgeous, psychopathic, serial murderer neighbor that lived next door.
