Author's notes:

(The first few chapters are a little older, sorry that they're a little rankathon idk why the fuck I was writing in present tense sometimes? Like girl wtf get your shit together. I don't like JK Rowling but her flimsy wordbuilding felt salvageable (not that mines any better I'm a little stupid head also) so here's some fanfiction I guess :-))

A motorcycle comes to a screeching holt. The tires scream as they drag along tarmac.

"Here we are, 'Ortense. Now, I'll walk ya into the station but then your on yer own." Spoke a tall man with a bushy beard. The man had hands the size of dustbin lids, and seemed like he couldn't get through most doorways with ease.

"Thanks Hagrid." A stoic but quite high voice replied from the sidecar. Hortencia unclipped her helmet before jumping from the sidecar. She pulled a briefcase from the sidecar with her. The September breeze brushed dark coils of hair around her face. She tucked what she could of her bouncy hair behind her ears and pulled up her scarf to her chin.

Walking into the station, Hagrid looked down at Hortencia worriedly.

"You're sure you remember? Don't be embarrassed if you get the wrong wall it happens all the time with first years-"

"Hagrid." Started Hortencia. "I'll be fine.." she forced a smiled.

"I know ya can handle yerself, I know."

The odd pair walked through the crowded station. Muggles in business attire rushing here and there to find their trains. The occasional wizard stuck out to the trained eye. "This is where I leave ya. Goodluck, Tense."

"Goodbye Hagrid. See you there." Hagrid left, looking back every so often before disappearing into the crowd.Hagrid left, looking back every so often before disappearing into the crowds.

Hortencia wandered the station for a while mouthing the numbers of each platform to herself.

'Seven....eight... nine... ten.' She walked back. "Nine and three quarters.. okay." She mumbled. Taking a deep breath, she walked as confidently as she could fake towards the wall. Unable to tolerate the anxiety she sprinted, eyes shut.

She stopped. She must've passed the wall.. right?

She opened her eyes, squinting out before concealing her frightened expression at the sight of dozens of other kids boarding the train. She glanced up at a sign just above her. '9 and three quarters.' She secured her briefcase in her hand before boarding the train.

She hunched her shoulders and forced herself forward through the small hallway down the train. She tried to drown out the sounds of other kids yelling and chatting.

'It's awful cramped, isn' it'

'I'm so excited- oi! Wait up!'

She held her free hand to her ear and continued to walk. Her coat scraped against the walls. It was too loud. She stopped walking and barged into the nearest compartment.

She sits down and leans her head back against the wall behind her. She closes her eyes. She takes a deep breath in and out. She took in the quiet.

"Uhm..." she opens her eyes and meets the eyes of one of two people in the compartment. "Are you good..?" Asked a boy sitting opposite from her. he looked up at the girl next to him. She looked at him then at Hortencia.

Hortencia stared at them for a second, mouth agape.

"What..? Uh. Yeah. I'm fine." She said quickly and more shakily than she would've liked.
