Oh, Lord. this can't be the end.

All the sweat, all the tears, all the blood, this cannot be the result of all this hard work.

The crowd was cheering on as time passed. They all thought they knew what was going to happen, it was inevitable, and this is what they came here to see. Sounds all around, people shouting, chanting, "Jason! Jason! Jason!". Jason stood around, watching the people cheer for him, believing that he had successfully defended his title in the "World Boxing Championship" for the third time in a row.

"This isn't over, Jason, I'm going to beat you!" came a voice from the back of my throat. He turned around to see me barely standing on my feet. "Oh wow, looks like you still have some fight in you. Well, let me just take it out.", he smirked. Let's see how you do it, Jason. Jason strode towards me, determined to finish the match once and for all.

I could see his left-hand twitching, ready to deliver the final blow of this match. "You had a great run, but this fluke story ends here, Alex!", he shouted. Already anticipating his punch, I was able to dodge it. However, I was already winded by the blows I took earlier on in the match. My lower left rib was bruised from his punches and my chin was paining by his hooks. I can't let this be the end, my family is counting on me. I got in stance in front of him, ready to get back into this match.

"Jason, you may think that you are the superior boxer, and you might be right. But today, I will be the one lifting the trophy", I said. I could see his face transforming, expressing irritation and annoyance, just as I had intended. Seeing his right side unguarded, I threw in a punch there, connecting with his rib. He staggered back, looking shocked for a split-second as to how I managed to get a punch on him, but regained his smug expression back.

"Ah, so you did manage to get a hit on me, good luck trying to actually defeat me though", he said. I remained passive, "Don't be too smug, I might just have to wipe it off your face."

"You have an attitude, I'll give you that, Alex, but attitude isn't going to win this for you. Whatever, it isn't like I care about you win." He shrugged in arrogance.

All right Jason, time to prove you wrong.

This conversation had made Jason loose, I could feel it. This was the only chance I'd get to inflict some serious damage to him. I got my left-hand forward, faking a punch but atually giving him a right hook. He fell into my trick so easily, even I got surprised. He seemed to be shocked too. I took advantage of this momentum, and got three more quick punches in before he came back into it and blocked my fourth attempt.

He quickly got back on his feet, steadying his feet and started running towards me. I tried to block his attack, but he was too technical in his hits, hitting me on my already bruised side, causing a stinging pain throughout my body. He didn't stop there, throwing an upper cut which left me on the ground.

"I already told you Alex, this match is as good as over. Just quit now and save yourself the effort of getting more bruised and humiliated", he said. Man, this guy talks too much. I quickly got up to my feet and went for a jab, but he dodged it easily. I had to finish this match before it gets too long and I get drained of my energy.

He strode forward and I immediately felt an excruciating pain on my shoulder, the same shoulder where the bone was weak even seven years after the accident. I let out a groan, feeling the brute force of that punch to the last inch of my bones as I fell again.

The accident. I remembered everything of what had happened during and after the accident. The pain in my bones, the blood dripping down my face, Gray's expressionless face, the way his body went slack. I remember our parents' expression when the doctor informed them about Gray's paralysis, how he felt when we had to tell him that all his dreams were crushed, just like his legs in the accident. I also remembered the vow I made to live out his dream to win the "World Boxing Championship" and become the best boxer in the world.

Finding a new strength running through my veins, I willed my legs and hands to support me as I readied myself to finish this thing quickly. Tilting my lips right, I gave him a look. "Is this all you've got, Jason? I thought you were the two-time champion of the World Boxing Championship." His face concerted to an expression of rage, and he swiftly brought his right hand in my direction, ready to finish me off with a quick hit.

I side-stepped his move and gave him a blow on the face. He staggered back, shaking his head. Even before he got back together, a blow on the chest threw him on the ground. I hunched over Jason and started giving him blows everywhere legal. "This is nothing personal Jason, but don't even try to fight back. This is my match to win."

Even after getting hit so much, he didn't back down. Get this over with, Alex! He will beat you if you don't end this! As he was bent over his legs getting up, I gave him a powerful hit on his shoulder. He stumbled back on his feet, his body insanely tired as if he couldn't go on any longer. He was taking deep breaths, trying to compose himself but being unsuccessful.

"This is for you Gray!!" Feeling the adrenaline coursing through me, I sprinted towards him and rose my hand to his chin, giving a swift uppercut, and he went flying a few feet back. He was unmoving. As the shocked crowd chanted my name, the match official came forward and after checking Jason, stepped back. It was finally over. I won the match. The "World Boxing Championship" was mine.

"And what a shock! The newcomer Alex Dawson has won the World Boxing Championship in his first appearance, defeating two-time champion Jason Smith! This is truly a perfect underdog story for the ages! " Even though the crowd went roaring, my ears were ringing. My mind recalled everything in flashes. All the work, all the vows, all the despair when I thought I couldn't make it, the feeling when I saw my brother slowly fade away after his life got destroyed, his recovery back to normal, the moment when I qualified for the tournament, and the happiness I felt when I saw the look of pride on my family's faces, everything rushed to me in an instant.

As I regained my senses, I scanned the crowd-looking for my family. I found them coming towards me, my mother with tears-no doubt of joy-running down her face, my father with the proud look in his eyes, and finally the most important person in my life, my brother, who was beaming with joy even while bawling his eyes out.

I ran to them, hugging my mother tightly with watery eyes. "I'm proud of you Alex" she whispered in my ear. I squeezed her more tightly for a second and then moved towards my father. He patted my back and said, "I knew if anyone could do it, it was you, son." His face showed that he meant every word he said. I turned to Gray, who was already turned towards me, and instantly caught his back. Even after trying so hard, a single tear slid down my right cheek, beginning the waterworks. "You did it Alex, you did it." I could feel the pride he felt, the happiness in his heart, the feeling that even if he couldn't, I lived his dream for him. I could hear the tears in his eyes as he spoke, congratulating me, expressing how proud he is of me, how deserving I was to win the match and how we were going to celebrate this victory when we got home later-just the four of us.

After sometime, one of the match officials tapped me on the back, saying that I had to get ready for the post match presentation and trophy lifting. I gave a quick kiss to my mom on her cheek and went with him. As I got back on the stage, I saw the look on the crowd's faces as they called out my name. "Alex! Alex! Alex!" they were calling out excitedly. The feeling in my body, the rush of adrenaline and pride, I liked it. I wanted it forever. I started this for my brother, but it also became my dream during the journey. My dream was my brother's, my brother's dream was mine. The announcer announced of my victory and as I lifted the trophy above my head, I realized, this is not the end of a dream, it's just the beginning.
