The sun shuffled through the curtains, peeking inside the room. A cluster of rays escaped through the tenuous piece of cloth that did no job of preventing them. The room lit up and came back to life with golden rays embellishing the pale walls as if the lifeless room had been given water again. Everything looked serene, devoid of any unpleasant noise that may disturb the quiet air. The morning looked fresh, basked in golden light. There was no continuous noise of traffic to mess up the tranquillity of the new day, only a faint noise of vehicles droning in the background.
She groaned when sunlight fell onto her face, interrupting her beauty sleep. Grabbing the blanket she buried her head inside, covering herself from head to toe. Her attempt to sleep peacefully failed when her sister tossed and turned on the bed trying to find a good position and ended up placing her leg on Zoha's abdomen.
"Get away from me!" She gritted, pushing the younger one away. "What do you even eat, you pig!!" When no attempts of her moving the leg seemed to work, she placed her hand on Noor's thighs, grabbing a little of her skin between her finger and the thumb, and pinched hard.
"Ouch!!" The younger winced loudly, jolting up. Every trace of sleep vanished from her eyes.
"Are you mad or what?!!" Noor yelled, rubbing the sore spot on her thighs and winced when it stung.
"Stop burying me under your weight or else I will die of suffocation!!" She sneered, sarcasm evident in her tone.
"You-" Noor stopped abruptly. Staring at Appi's face, her face softened immediately as if remembered something. An emotion flickered through her eyes and she kept on looking at Zoha's face with longing. "Sorry" whispering faintly, she got down from the bed and went inside the washroom.
"What's up with her?" Zoha murmured inaudibly. She was perplexed by her sister's behaviour. It was very unlike Noor's to not retaliate. Why did she not jib back? And what was with that odd expression? "Leave it" Shrugging, she pushed the thoughts away.
......
"What's taking you so long? I gotta pee, hurry up" Zoya knocked on the door of the washroom in urgency, trying to hold her pee back. Five minutes passed by but the door didn't open and the continuous sound of running tap water kept coming. "Noor!!" She banged once again, swinging back and front on her heel and foot fingers in an attempt to hold her obstinate urine back.
The door opened only to reveal puffy-eyed Noor, her nose slightly red, eyes looking dull as if something had been rubbed on them harshly, "Now, one can't even poop peacefully" Noor muttered, stepping out.
Noticing the look on her face, Zoha turned to her, tilting her head to get a clear view. "What happened?" She asked with narrowed eyes
"What happened, what?" The younger replied, pretending as if not knowing what her sister was talking about and scurried away quickly, leaving a baffled Zoha behind.
