Satoru is away.
The house is theirs to do as they please, and as always, Nobara and Yuji are coming over for a movie night and sleepover.
She looks at her reflection in the bathroom mirror.
Red eyes, dark circles, skin paler than usual.
Umi feels sick.
Her heartbeat doubles. Nausea creeps to her throat and she swallows, trying to get rid of the vomity taste in her mouth.
Sukuna's bite mark is sore, red and looks inflamed.
The jerk bit her to blood.
Umi shivers as another wave of nausea washes over her.
With trembling hands, she takes out the plasters and tries to hide the shame.
Umi closes her eyes. The band aids on her neck look hideous.
The doorbell rings and she feels like walking out the window.
I need to get a hold of myself.
Deep breath.
Megumi is the master of poker faces. She is nowhere near as good.
She clenches the sides of the sink. Knuckles turn pale. Limbs start to hurt.
Get a hold of yourself.
Faint voices of Yuji and Nobara reach her ears. She is not ready.
She is not ready to face Yuji.
Not after...
"Oi, Umi." Nobara yells.
Footsteps stops behind the closed door. Nobara's fist connects with the wood. "Umi!"
The door opens and dark the brunette steps out.
The sullen look of dark eyes stares heavily at Nobara.
"Woah." Nobara's eyes widen. "You look like shit."
"Thank you." Umi tries to pull on an unreadable mask.
Nobara leans closer, studying the plasters. "What happened here?"
"Bug bite." She retorts sharply.
"Hmm." Nobara tilts her head. "Must have been a big bug."
Umi's eye twitches. "Isn't it your turn to cook today?" She leans on the wall with her eyebrows raised.
"Ah!" Nobara exclaims. "That's why I'm here. Can you switch with me?? Pretty please!"
"No."
Umi demonstrably turns away, yet the corners of her lips tremble.
"Come on! Pretty please!" Nobara wraps her arms around the girl and presses their cheeks together.
"No."
"Come on! Do you really want to eat what Megumi and I will cook?"
Her whole body tenses. Eye starts twitching. That's right. The last time this duo cooked they all got food poisoning. Luckily Satoru was home to take them to the hospital.
"How could you mess up so badly?" Umi mumbles. "Fine! But I'm using your movie choosing privilege."
"Deal. Oi, Megumi, you'll be cooking with Umi." Nobara yells walking ahead.
Umi follows closely behind.
Her brother and Yuji turn as they enter the kitchen.
Her heart skips a beat when Yuji's eyes meet hers. His gentle smile makes the nauseating feeling come back. Umi looks away.
