You had lived your entire life being used and abused... you never backed down from a fight, and yet your entire childhood consisted of staring at the same heartless expressions.

"You're doing it wrong!!"
"You're an idiot."
"What the actual fuck you stupid girl?!"
"It would be better if you disappeared"
"You're just like your useless mother..."

Your mother... let's not get into that just yet.

You were a hardworking child who lived alone in an abandoned shed in the woods. You live on an island in the east blue called Cocoyashi and didn't even know if you were born there or moved there... you know nothing of your younger years... maybe before you turned 9? You truly don't remember your childhood.

Ever since you were 9, you've been alone and working 24/7. Your entire brain is filled with thoughts of how to make others happy... how to fulfil their needs... You could barely breathe most of the time, you can barely think straight. You only had one person you could go to... Nami, Nami the catburglar. She's really nice and only 2 years older than you, you both ended up being taken from the village around a year apart. She was taken for her navigation skills while you were taken for your devil fruit... the goro goro no mi.

You were tired... tired of living.

"Shu, you're daydreaming again. Why this time?"

"Do you ever think we can go there... to the sea? Do you think if we ran away... would," You hesitated for a second, "would Arlong find us?"

"How would we even do that... these chains don't just fall off." She giggled slightly, trying not to get emotional. The two of you were only children, too young to be dealing with this sort of pressure.

"I don't know... maybe some Prince will come save us..." You mumbled, staring at the tiny hole in the wall.

"You've been reading too many fairy tales. I've told you that none of that is real. Nobody will save us. We just need to save up 100 million." Nami was serious, probably the most serious you had ever seen her.

"It's not harmful to dream though..." You smiled brightly, and she sighed before getting back to drawing. She was a talented navigator...

"Oi girl. Arlong wants you." A fish man growled from the door.

You stared at him before slowly getting to your feet, everything you had done in the past year flashing before your eyes... you had killed hundreds of people because of Arlong. You had no choice. Arlong was smart. He specifically used sea stone handcuffs so you couldn't go against him, although you tried many times before he threatened both Nami's and the villages' lives. It was impossible to say no to him.

It wasn't long before you stood in front of Arlong, the way you wish you could just dig your claws into his annoying face... make him feel pain, even if it would never amount to all the suffering he put you through.

"Kill them." He smirked, no please no nothing.

"No." You muttered, and everybody froze. "I'm sick of you, Arlong! You control us like we're just puppets and we're not! We have feelings!! I'm not your slave!"

You blinked once, and before you knew what happened, you were on the ground, warm liquid dripping down your face as Arlong stood over you. You could no longer see out of your left eye, it hurt... but you refused to cry. Arlong dropped a sword. You knew it was hatchans. You raised your hand to your left eye, trying to stop the bleeding.

"You're an idiot girl. Do what I say, and you won't get hurt!!" He growled. You knew you wouldn't get out of this with just a cut... and you were right. The beating went on for hours. At one point, you couldn't even scream anymore... the pain was too much, and your body wouldn't even let you cry. Nami must be worried... and eventually, after the whole crew had had their fun, you were allowed back to the main arlong Park building where you and Nami were locked in.

"What the fuck..." Nami mumbled as you stumbled into the room, bruises littering your skin as you smiled. You missed her. "WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU?!" She was clearly mad and visibly shaking as you shook your head. You were in pain, but you just wanted to keep her safe.

"Where's the first aid kit?" You smiled. It may have been weak, but she didn't comment.

"Bathroom."

And with that, she didn't say anything else... not for a year.

Arlong slowly unlocked Nami's chains before smirking, "Work hard, Nami." She nodded, in response, not wanting to mutter a word.

"Be safe." You muttered as you stared at the blank door in front of you. You didn't know if she heard you before she left, but you could only hope.

"She's so mean." He smirked before walking over to you and pushing a book in front of your face. "Read."

You glared at him before looking at the book. It was ancient... this writing - this wasn't normal. "It's a travel log."

"Now, how do you know that?" Arlong made a knowing face before smirking, something you had seen a million times, "Nobody can read that, so how can you?" His face was inches away from yours, nose practically stabbing your last eye out.

"Get the fuck away from me." You muttered and he slapped you, hard.

"You're finally going to come in handy for something... if you can read this, then you can read the poneglyphs and if you refuse... well, I'm sure the world government would love to dispose of you."

He left without another word...

Poneglyphs?

"Sweetie, this is a road poneglyph. It tells a story of history." A sweet voice was talking... somebody with long black hair, opposing your own white hair.

"She's too young to learn about this." A deeper voice called as a man walked over to the woman, a red-haired man...

You couldn't make out their faces... they didn't seem familiar in the slightest, though. You gritted your teeth as you tried to figure it out. Who were they? You walked back and forth before running to the bathroom, looking in the mirror. Looking back at you was an empty blue eye and a red eye that had a scar running along your pale skin. You weren't there to stare at your own reflection, though... you rummaged through a box before pulling it out, an even smaller box that had a rusty lock keeping all its secrets hidden.

You looked around before throwing it at the wall, causing it to fall to the floor. Nothing happened, nor did the lock break... You hesitated before picking it up and walking into the main room and sitting on the floor and began to hit the box against the rock wall.

Eventually, it finally broke open, and inside was a small heart key necklace with an engraving... S. "Shu..?" It must be my name, right? You slowly put it on and ripped the box apart, looking for anything. Nothing...

You sighed before picking up the book and flipping through it.

The next few years, it continued like this where you would stay in arlong Park. Every once in a while, you would be allowed outside but only to kill somebody with your fruit... it saved arlong time if he didn't have to go to the village to collect the tributes himself. Apart from that, you stayed in the building and honed your skills, including swordskills, thanks to Hatchan...

You were able to get better knowledge of your devil fruit and its limits. You became an amazing swordswoman, and despite not knowing what the key did, you wore it daily. Nami was always on the go, and when she did come back, she never stayed long. She stopped talking to you or even looking at you... you were alone all over again, all apart from a bird that would sit outside the small hole in the wall and sing every morning. You knew what you had to do to escape, and you were ready. It was nearly time.
