It had been an hour since Levy had revealed herself, and in that shroud of complete shadow, the girls began to talk with each other as if they were at some small coffee shop once again. They discussed literature and writing, how their careers had been going, and the social dramas of adulthood. Soon, however, a pale orange light began to glow nearby, illuminating great metal bars that kept them from escape. Levy's eyes turned stone as she noticed."Pretend to sleep," she whispered harshly to Lucy,"the guards are coming." She turned over and curled up against the grey floor, appearing dead to the world. Lucy tried following suit, using every bit of her self control to slow her breathing. A loud clang could be heard many minutes later, a deep, rumbling voice could be heard from the front of our cell,"Hey, Levy,
Just your old pal, come on, I know your not asleep." Cautiously, Lucy watched Levy turn her head to face the gates. Lucy also took a glance at the man who had spoken, immediately shuddering and turning back over, horrified by the looming presence in the doorway. His face was marred with what appeared to be steel nails driven into his flesh, and his mouth seemed permanently contorted into a grimace. She heard Levy squeal, and scrambled frantically to her feet, desperately trying to calculate what the guard must have done to her in those few seconds Lucy had turned away. Her brain took a second to adjust to the scene before her. Levy was grinning, with her small arms wrapped around the large guard,"Gajeel, I was so worried!" The man, Gajeel, supposedly, turned his head to look down at the blue-haired journalist, his expression softening."Me,too. Y'see, they were low on guard recruits, so they pulled me out for some training," he paused to let out a peal of laughter,"Those bastards were too afraid to train me! So they sent me on duty here." Levy smiled and reached up to touch his face, only then remembering Lucy and withdrawing her hand. "Right," She pointed over towards me,"Meet my old friend, Lucy. She arrived in this dump yesterday." Gajeel stared her down intently, as if calculating her every aspect. "Think she'll make a good member? Maybe as a decoy?" Levy sighed, "You can't just ask me if I want my friend to be sent to her death, Gajeel. Yes, of course she will make a great member, but you can't expect me to be okay with the guards potentially killing my best friend!" He laughed again."Okay,okay." Lucy crossed her arms over her chest,"Member of what? I am still here, you know." Levy blushed and walked up to Lucy, "Sorry about that. So those of us imprisoned here who show skill and want for escape have an organization. We call ourselves the Underground Soldiers and in the open, only refer to this organization in their person. This way, no one can tell that we aren't simply talk about the Parliament's soldiers that are employed down here." Levy paused as if to gauge Lucy's interest,"We are working on a way to change things from the inside. I thought you might wish to join if it meant we could escape this place," Lucy was immediately hopeful as she processed Levy's words, forgetting the obvious threat of danger in that instant for a chance to escape. Lucy noticed that Gajeel was looking distracted, still by the entrance. He turned to look at the two girls,"Come to breakfast in five, I have to leave. Love you, Levy." He strode quickly out of the room. Levy turned back to her,"Are you in?" She asked Lucy, extending her hand."Yeah," Lucy replied instantly, thrilled for such an early chance at hope for escape. "Let us go on to breakfast, then." Levy encouraged, waltzing over to swing open the barred-iron door,"I suppose it is there you can meet the Underground Soldiers you will be fighting with."
