SEPTEMBER IST, 1989
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRYTHE SOUNDS OF FOOTSTEPS ECHOED THROUGH THE
great hall, a large group of nervous eleven year olds filing through the doors. the thousands of eyes rested upon them made them restless, keeping their heads down and blushing in embarrassment.at the front of the group, a stern looking woman lead them towards the opposite end of the hall. upon a table rested a dusty hat looking worse for wear, with a small stool sat adjacent to it. the woman moved her hand, and picked up the hat whilst moving the other to hold up a scroll. her voice rang out, "when i call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted."
the first name came clearly, "abbott, cecelia!"
arabella montague watched as a blonde girl, who looked pink in the face and rocked pigtails, stepped forward cautiously and took a seat. soon enough, a rip near the brim of the hat opened and it shouted out, "HUFFLEPUFF!"
her nerves were begin to make her hands shake slightly, as she glanced over at the slytherin table and met her brothers eyes. graham montague smiled slightly, and waved at her. her smile slid slowly onto her face, before she snapped her head to the front after, "montague, arabella" was called out.
her legs felt like lead as she moved through the now thinning crowd, who parted for her. time seemed to move in slow motion as she made her way towards the old stool, and she sat down.
"hm, a montague aye? mm yes, i remember sorting your brother just last year. a slytherin, was he not?"
the girl simply nodded, her face feeling warm as she avoided eye contact with everybody.
"mm well, although i can see some of them traits.. i'm not sure it would be the right fit for you.."
arabella blinked in surprise, her mind racing at the possibility she may not be in the same house as him. although she wasn't exactly sure she wanted to be placed in slytherin, she knew her brother would not ever be the same to her if she wasn't. ever since she was accepted, her brother had gone on and on about how proud he is and how she was going to make it into slytherin.
"don't be scared," she jumped as she was pulled from her thoughts, "i just think you will perform better in.. GRYFFINDOR!"
the last word was shouted, and the second table from the left erupted into cheers at their new house member. arabella, however, could not find it in herself to celebrate being placed in her house, as she moved her gaze back to his brother. instead of the reassuring smile he spöter before, he stared back at her with a cold stare, before moving his eyes to his plate.
she walked quickly over to her new table, her eyes threatening to spill the tears building up. two redheads budged over in their seats, allowing her to sit down with them. she recognised them from the crowd she had walked in with.
"george weasley," one of the lads spoke to her whilst holding out his hand, "and this is my twin, fred."
the second redhead nodded in greeting, as she replied. "arabella montague, nice to meet you." she took his hand and shook.
her gaze moved to the girl sat opposite her, she had kind brown eyes and her hair was braided. "angelina johnson," the girl smiled at her.
she smiled back, knowing that things weren't going to be as bad as she thought.
