I arrived home and took my house key out of my book bag and opened the door, after closing the door behind me. I sat my back pack on the ground and pulled out my laptop. I checked my email, to see if any of my teachers had sent me an email about homework. My inbox read zero; I headed down stairs to get a glass of water. I heard the garage door open and knew my step dad was home. He came upstairs in his work cloths and his curly black hair gelled back, but also a little windblown as if he had taken a walk today. He came in my room and asked with a smile, "Hey, how was your day kido." He asked me. Every day he asked how my day was, and every day I responded, "Good". Therefore I did not have to explain my day. If I said my day was bad I would have to explain. Most of the days were boring, the same routine of school and going to classes, nothing much ever changed and that's what annoyed me.

I answered my step dad's question, "It was good."

He replied, "That's great," And went on to change out of his work clothes.

"Dinner!" my mom called upstairs. Tilapia, it was fish tonight, along with green beans and some grains.

"Thank you for dinner, honey!" my step dad said thankfully; saying it so that I would remember to thank my mom for dinner.

After I had showered and brushed my teeth I was tried and ready to go to bed. I turned off my light and climbed into bed. I lied in my bed; thoughts flowed through my head as I drifted off to sleep. My eyes opened all I could see was blank white, so bright. My eyes blinked and I was able to see clearly. I looked to my left and right side, I was off my bed, and I was floating in midair. I noticed my legs and arms were spread out like a star and I glowed.  My body glowed like a bright flashlight. As if I was a star, a ball of gas. I knew I was dreaming. Then a sharp pain went up my back and the all the light from my body drained and flew right out of me. I started to fall, I closed my eyes. I opened them again, there I was in my bed, no covers on, but I was in my bed. I went back to sleep trying to forget what had happened, since I was not sure if what had happened was real or not.

Today was the remembrance of my dad's death. After school I planned on visiting his gravestone with my mom. I did not know him very well because I was three when he left to join the army. It was not till I was five till he died. My mom remarried a few years later to my step dad, Richard.

I was already dressed in my uniform for school, when my mom walked in with a box. She sat on my bed and I took a seat next to her. My mom told me, "Your father wanted me to give you this for your 15th birthday. I know your birthday is not until a couple months, but I thought it would be fine to give it to you now." I looked at the beautiful dark wood design of the box. I recognized this box from when I was younger; it was my dad's old cigar box. With a confused look on my face I thanked my mom.

"Honey, where do we keep the Band-Aids!" my step dad shouted from down stairs.

My mother answered back, "They should be in the cabinet!"

I heard my father's voice again, "I do not see them?"

My mother sat up from my bed and walked out of the room and spoke to my step father, "I'm coming sweet heart, let me show you."

I stared down at the cigar box my mom had just given me. I slid the top lid open; inside was lined with orange cloth. Lying in the box was a necklace. The necklace was silver, hung with a pendant that had a hint of purple. There were a few markings on the pendant that made a certain type of marking that I could not recognize. I put the pendant on and went down stairs to get myself a bowl of cereal before walking to school.

I meant up with Danielle in the upper 9th grade common area before I headed to my art class. "Hey, twinnie," Danielle greeted.

I responded, "Hey, twin." I paused for a second thinking if I should tell her about what happened to me. Since she was my best friend I went ahead and continued; "So last night I was floating."
