New recruit Reader POV

"It's the big day!" I couldn't believe it. After months of waiting and back and forth with my application I'm finally here. I finished what could be my last cigarette for a while and tossed it.
"I suppose I'd better get in there then."
As I walked in I was surrounded by other agents, new and old.
"Hiya Tracer here! You must be that new recruit everyone's been talking about (y/n) right? I've heard great things about you and what your dad did for us! From what I heard about (y/f/n) I can't wait to find out what you've got in store for us" she beamed at me. I've never seen someone so upbeat and chatty.I lightly chuckled at the statement. That definitely did not calm my nerves of expectations I don't think I could handle.
"Anyways, let's get you started love!" She spoke still in the same joyful tone. As she said that she began giving me a tour around before introducing me to the rest of the agents. The one agent that really caught my attention was Cole Cassidy.
"We'll howdy little lady you must be (y/n), (y/n)  (y/l/n) right? We're all expecting great things from you." He chuckled lightly under his breath. I gave a nervous giggle in return, not exactly sure how else to respond. After a bit of small talk in came Commander Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. After they welcomed you to overwatch they gave you a quick run down of what you'd be doing.
"So (y/n) is it. What's your surname new recruit?" Commander Morrison demanded while Gabriel stood beside him watching. I hesitated at first but eventually managed to cough it up.
"Uhh (y/l/n) s-sir." Both men stood there too stunned to speak as they stared in awe.
"(Y/l/n)?! As in (y/f/n) (y/l/n)?" Jack responded first.
"Your trying to claim that your the only child of (y/f/n)? The (y/f/n) (y/l/n)? There's is no chance I'm going to believe that." Reyes groaned.
"We'll what do you want me to do go ask him? Oh wait I can't." I quickly snapped back. Everyone looked on, they seemed stunned at my boldness. They were all trying to work out weather that was a brave or stupid idea.
Reyes looked up from your files with a look that could kill.
" I understand your new so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Never speak to your superior like that again. Understood rookie?" He growled still giving me the same look that could kill.
"Understood sir. Did you still require me to provide evidence of my claim to my birth father?" In came the malicious compliance. Now everyone was starting and were all adamant that my decision was definitely stupidity and not bravery. Now I had death stares from both Morrison and Reyes.
"Your going to prove to be a pain in my ass aren't you?" Jack asked jokingly with a light chuckle.
"Like father like daughter I suppose." Reyes responded.
"So your confirming that you believe my previous statement of my bloodline sir?" I asked.
They both just looked at each other as Morrison handed the last of my files over to Reyes.
" Good luck Reyes, she's your problem now." Jack laughed at him as he left the room with most of the team following behind. It was just Cassidy, Genji, Moira and Reyes left behind with me.
"So if your done with the back talk I can get on with informing you of what you'll be doing." He waited for your response. You just nodded along and sat down on the table top behind you.
"Can't you sit on a chair like everyone else?" Gabriel asked.
"Nah thanks." I smiled back at him.
He just shook his head and went back to his presentation of my first mission. The rest of the team look between the both of you in disbelief at how you got away with that. Even Moira was shocked at how easily you got away with that.
"So letting the new recruit show you up I see Reyes?" Moira remarked cutting him off.
"Don't cut me off. You know better than that Moira." He growled before getting straight back into the ins and outs of your mission. Throughout his entire explanation all I could do is keep glancing over at the tall rugged cowboy. I couldn't get over his amazing looks.

✨Another time skip✨

It has been about 6 months since I first joined and I have proven to live up to everyone's high expectations. I still can't stop looking over at and constantly catching myself staring at Cassidy. However, it's seems like he wants nothing to do with me. No matter what I do he always seems to avoid me. The more he avoids me the more i slowly started to give up.
"Speak of the devil and he shall appear" I thought to myself as I watched him walk into base. At the sight of him, from previous encounters, I decided to just ignore him and go back to my room.
"(Y/n)!" Reyes shouted out for me.
"What?" I asked
"I just wanted to say good job on your last mission. You got it done quickly, you seem to be doing better than our veterans here." He stated referring to Cassidy and Genji.
"What did we do?" Genji asked as Cassidy stood there next to him quickly glancing over at you before looking away.
"You almost lost us the mission is what." Reyes barked back.
"How did I?" Genji whined back whist I was still catching Cassidy constantly glancing over at me no longer paying attention to the conversation he was supposed to be a part of.
"Not you, you moron. Cole!" Reyes shouted noting Cole's lack of attention to the conversation at hand. Cassidy quickly snapped around.
"What did I do?" Cole responded confused as to what was going on.
"More like what you didn't do. Get your head out of the clouds. Todays lack of attention almost cost us the mission let alone our lives! Only reason we made it out was thanks to (y/n)! One more mission like this one and I'm gonna have to think about your replacement." Reyes did not seem impressed with his performance today. As the three men were talking back and forth I made my way to my room.
"I don't have the energy to deal with this." I thought as I walked away. I only managed to get so far down the halls before I could hear cowboy boots clanking in the distance behind me.
"(Y/n)! Hold on a minute!" The cowboy shouted me down the hall. With that I began to walk faster.
" I can't deal with him right now." I thought as I could feel the last pieces of my heart shattering further. As I heard his footsteps grow faster a sped up myself turning corners making it hard for him to find me. It was working well till I turned a corner and found myself in a dead end.
" Oh no...no no no no NO! I can't deal with this right now!" I could hear his footsteps getting louder and louder till he turned the corner to find me stuck at a dead end.
"(Y/n).. I need to speak to ya.. please stop running from me darlin'.." he tried to speak in between trying to get his breathe back.
"I'm not sure what I've done to ya but I've noticed you've been avoiding me lately. Have I done something to upset ya?" He asked sounding concerned. All i could do was keep my back turned to him facing the wall.
"Please just leave me alone" i thought to myself trying to hold back the tears. Before Cole could say anything I swung the window to the left of me wide open.
"NO!" Screamed the cowboy before tackling me to the ground holding me tight.
"What are you doing?" You asked trying to avoid letting him see your lightly tear stained face.
"I thought you were gonna jump out the window little lady." He said. As he said that I showed him my cigarette and lighter before getting back up to lean out the window and begin smoking it.
"Oh.. sorry bout that.." he chuckled nervously. "Did I hurt you at all darlin'?" He asked as he looked me up and down checking for any obvious injuries.
"No I'm fine. So is that all you wanted to tell me Cole?" I asked rather coldly.
"Ohh..uhh no there's something else and I-I'm not sure how to say this b-but..." he trailed off as he started to look away.
"Spit it out Cole." I groaned as I tossed my cigarette out the window before closing it. I turned on my heels to face him, after cleaning my face, to see him looking me dead in my eyes. Hey grasped my hands between his.
"I love you (y/n)!"
"W-what?" Was all I could get out.
"You don't have to love me back darlin' but I love you. From the moment I saw you I fell head over heals for you." He proclaimed. I was too stunned to do anything for a minute. He stared back waiting for my response.
"...If that's the case why did you avoid me all this time?" I questioned.
"B-because I didn't know how to tell ya and I didn't wanna make a fool of myself.." he mumbled.
"Cole..I-I love you too." I said looking up at him with a smile. He looked back at me with a cute goofy smile. Before he could begin to speak I gave him a peck of the lips with a cheeky grin to follow. He looked from my eyes down to my lips before giving me a long and romantic kiss.
