Chapter 1: A MORNING TRIP TO SCHOOL

As the sun began to rise, casting a warm, golden hue over the quiet suburban neighborhood, Alexandra awoke to the sound of her alarm clock. She groaned, reluctantly leaving the comfort of her bed and facing the prospect of another day at Crestwood High School.

Alexandra was a senior, and like every other morning, her best friend Selena texted her, reminding her to be ready for their daily carpool with their friends, Mace, Jack, Mark, and Xavier. The group had been inseparable since their freshman year, sharing countless memories, inside jokes, and secrets.

In the cozy kitchen of Alexandra's home, her mother was busy preparing breakfast. The smell of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, a comforting aroma that somehow made early mornings more bearable. Alexandra's younger brother, Max, was busy with his cereal, barely acknowledging his sister's existence.

Alexandra and Selena met at the front door, backpacks slung over their shoulders, ready to embark on their journey to school. The group's carpool tradition began as a way to save gas money but had turned into a cherished ritual. Each morning, they piled into Jack's old minivan, groggy and half-asleep, yet comforted by the familiarity of their routine.

As they navigated the streets of their suburban town, the friends engaged in lighthearted banter, discussing the latest gossip, school assignments, and their plans for the upcoming weekend. As the morning sun bathed the school campus in a warm glow, Crestwood High School buzzed with its usual energy. Students poured into the building, chatting, laughing, and heading to their lockers. Alexandra and her friends had just arrived, parking the minivan in their usual spot near the school's entrance.

As they stepped out of the minivan, the somber atmosphere was palpable. A cluster of students huddled near the entrance, whispering urgently. Worried faces and hushed voices filled the air.

Alexandra exchanged a perplexed glance with Selena before they joined the small crowd. Mark, who had overheard some of the conversations, approached them with a grim expression.

"Guys, something terrible has happened," Mark said, his voice trembling.

"What's going on?" Alexandra asked, her heart beginning to race.

Mark took a deep breath before continuing, "My cousin, Jessie Berk, was found dead in the gymnasium this morning. It's... it's a murder."

Shock and disbelief washed over the group. Jessie was well-known in the school—a charismatic and popular student who had always been friendly to everyone. The news of her murder sent shockwaves through Crestwood High, leaving the students in a state of shock.

Teachers and administrators were working frantically to maintain order, but the school's hallways were abuzz with rumors and speculation. As the group made their way to their lockers, they couldn't escape the sense of unease that had settled over the school.
