It took me a couple of weeks before I was ready to go back to school. I got up, got dressed and headed straight for the pancakes. Micheal gave me the biggest hug. I couldn't help but to lift my spirits because he's my favorite person in this whole world.
I walked into school and for a while everyone stared at me. I went to all of my classes. After geometry I had football practice, since I only had so much time playing for our school I knew I wanted to make as much time here as I could. I wanted all the recruiters to see just how good I was, and I knew once I went to Greenwood I would be looked at. I needed to set the highest example if I wanted recruited.
Drew sat on the bench at practice taking a water break.
I huddled the guys up, helping them to remember why we play this game. We do it to have fun. I told them what they were doing wrong and how to fix it. then we continued on. We finished with our stretches, and we all hung out on the field for a little extra practice.
We heard sirens pull into the schools parking lot. Three officer's go through the football field. One heads directly towards me, I recognized him from the hospital. The other two grabbed Drew and read him his rights. He agreed he understood them. The officer that came up to me said "Layla, the DNA evidence you provided us came back to him. Thank you for helping us. I am so sorry that this happened. I know that nothing I can say will make up for this. I hope you know how sorry we all are." Drew walks past me in handcuffs and he says "Fuck you, you stupid bitch." I had no choice but to reply, "Shut up, nobody likes it when a douche bag talks back."
"Oh and Layla? We found out who posted the video." the officer says.
"Who took it?" I ask back.
"Principal Kareem, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand your rights as I have read them to you?"
He stutters for a second and then agrees that he understands.
