Bonnie and Kai go back to the 1903 Prison World to find Lilly Salvatore and Kai proves himself to helpful to a certain Bennett witch. *Anxiety/Panic Attack

"Let me get this straight, you want me to help you?" questioned Kai, crossing his arms in disbelief. Weren't these people ready to kill him at a moments notice just yesterday?

"You got a hearing problem now, too, crazypants?" sassed Damon.

Bonnie snorted from her spot curled up on the boarding house couch, after the agonizing silence of the prison world, Damon’s wit had gone from an annoyance to a gift. Bonnie relished in it, even Elena’s selfish monologues comforted her, anything was better than the deafening silence she had endured alone. Bonnie wouldn't trade this for the world.

“Easy there, vampy, I’m not exactly thrilled to be going back to hell again, but I'm in,” Kai stated, raising his hands in innocence.

Bonnie’s eyebrows raised in surprise, why would he want to help us? He must want something.

“But,” Kai said, pointing towards an unsuspecting Bonnie, “she, is coming with me.”

Damon’s face turned to stone, the word no slipping from between his lips before Bonnie could even form a coherent thought.

“I need leverage, she guarantees I come back, you wouldn’t leave your precious Bonnie stranded again would you?” Kai reasoned.

Her heart sank in realization, she had to do this, she wouldn't let Damon live in guilt forever. The Salvatore boys had been cheated out of mother once, and Bonnie wouldn't let it happen a second time. Before Damon could speak another word, she rose from her seat.

“Okay,” uttered Bonnie, nodding as she spoke, the word felt heavy on her tongue, it felt wrong. Her anxiety and panic heightened as she thought of going back. Calm down, Bonnie told herself, you have nothing to worry about, this’ll be easy.

"I'll do it,” she told Damon, “ it's the only way we'll know your mom will get home safe.". After being trapped in the prison world with Bonnie for months, Damon knew by the look in her eyes he couldn't talk her out of this. Damon made his way over to the anxiety-ridden Bennett witch, a weak smirk painted on his face, "You come back to us safe, Bennett." he mumbled softly, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

Bonnie's face twisted with uncertainty despite having a reassuring smile on her face, "I always do." she whispered, sounding a little more heart broken than she would have liked.

Each of the Mystic Falls gang made their way over to her; Tyler, Matt, Elena, Stefan and even Caroline. Each giving her words of encouragement, all wishing her a safe journey.

After they had all wished Bonnie off, she turned to Kai, a blank expression donning her face, "Let's do this." she said coldly.

Unwanted guilt tugged at Kai's stomach, it made him inwardly grimace, ugh, emotions. He only smirked at her, inching closer, hands extended, reaching for hers. Bonnie looked at his hands, slim fingers, wide palms, and frowned, the thought of touching him made her conflicted. Touching him meant touching a sociopath- a murderer, but they could also provided comfort to her, in a sick twisted way. She wouldn't have to go through hell alone, he'd be right there with her. With that thought she placed her hands in his, taking a deep breath and praying to any god that would listen for strength.

"You know, Bonnie, with all that we've been through together, I really think we should get friendship bracelets." confessed Kai, he squeezed her hands tighter as he said this, smirking at her scrunched up face. She had ignored him and they began chanting, she, trying half-heartedly to get them back to the prison world.

Bonnie landed with an unpleasant thud in the snowy tundra of Lily Salvatore’s prison world, she made no move to get up, trying to gather the strength to face her reality; she was back. A familiar hand found its way in front of Bonnie’s face, looking up she saw Kai staring at her, an emotion she couldn’t place in his eyes. Maybe I could trust him, just this once, Bonnie reasoned with herself, he’s all I have if this ‘mission’ goes south, she took his hand, rolling her eyes.

“I knew you’d warm up to me eventually, Bonnie.”

Bonnie jerked her hand out of his walking in no certain direction, just away, “Let’s find Lily and get out of here, I don’t want to spend anymore time with you than I have to.”

After trekking through the dark forest alone, she began looking around for any sign of Lily, even Kai, but she was completely alone, “Kai?” questioned Bonnie, her voice cracking. A chill began to seep into her veins, only it wasn’t from the cold, her hands began to shake as her breathing sped up.

                      Calm down.

Bonnie’s knees wobbled as she continued to walk, desperation creeping up her spine as she tried to find someone, anyone to comfort her. Unable to feel her legs, she collapsed hard into the snow, tears welling up into her eyes, breaths racked her body, she was alone.

                And then, she wasn’t.

Despite her ringing ears, she heard Kai’s soothing voice, “Bonnie? Can you hear me?” she vigorously nodded her head, she felt gentle hands wiping on her face, when had she began crying.

His hands guided her line of sight to him,“Bonnie, you need to breathe, okay? You’re having a panic attack.”

Moving his hands from her face, Kai grabbed her hands, putting them on his chest, “Focus on my breathing, Bonnie, inhale,” she breathed with him, concentrating on his steady heartbeat, thump, thump, thump, “Exhale.”

The crushing weight on her chest began to dissipate as the repeated this and as they did, she hadn’t felt this safe in months.

Kai inwardly grimaced, again, as he looked into her olive green eyes, it was all his fault. Bonnie Bennett, one of the strongest witches he knew, was broken, hopefully not beyond repair, because of his selfishness. Guilt seeped unwillingly through his veins, no one, especially, Bonnie, should have had to go through this.

Grabbing her small hands in his, he raised her up from the snowy terrain, smiling, no, smirking, like he knew he had to, “Come on, we’ve got another unnecessary Salvatore to save, I mean honestly, how many of them are there?” He turned, beginning to walk away from her, not wanting her to mention anything about what had just taken place, the humanity he had voluntarily shown, when she grabbed his hand.

She smiled weakly, looking into his deep blue eyes, something unspoken passed between them, they didn’t need to discuss it, only they understood it.

As they walked through the woods, with snow littering their hair as they pursued Lily Salvatore, neither of them noticed they never stopped holding hands.
