The Adlers are a revered family on Edward Island. The family's matriarch, Maggie Adler, did much for the island during World War Two. She was a comms officer for the USS Kanaloa, a submarine named after the Hawaiian god of the sea. The submarine launched on January 15, 1941, under the command of Lieutenant James Earle Platman.
Suddenly, the USS Kanaloa would suffer a tragic fate; six days before Halloween, the submarine sent a warped distress signal, which Maggie Adler picked up. Because the signal was so jumbled up, she mistook it for an enemy submarine, and therefore, she gave the order for nearby vessels to fire. Somehow, those on the Kanaloa survived, but not in the way you expect. They were trapped in a purgatory between time, so they weren't dead but not alive.
These victims would become known as The Sunken. These entities would vow revenge on Maggie and her descendants, specifically the women in the Adler family. The Adler women have a psychic ability to see these creatures and some have gone mad at the mere sight of them.
