Darian's newfound wisdom and balance in the infernal realm earned him not only the respect of demons and devils but also the attention of Lucifer himself. The Morning Star saw in Darian a potential pawn in his grand cosmic designs.

One day, as Darian communed with the infernal forces, Lucifer appeared before him, his wings of shadow unfurled. "Darian," he began, his voice like a dark symphony, "I have a proposition for you."

Darian regarded the Prince of Hell with a mix of trepidation and curiosity. "What would you ask of me, Lucifer?"

"There is a war brewing in the infernal realm," Lucifer explained, his eyes burning with intensity. "A conflict that threatens the very balance of this domain. I need your power, your mastery of both light and shadow, to ensure victory."

Darian considered Lucifer's request carefully. A war in the infernal realm was no small matter, and he understood the consequences of refusing. However, the lessons he had learned went beyond the pursuit of power for its own sake.

"I cannot participate in this war," Darian replied firmly. "I've seen the destructive nature of unchecked power, and I will not be a pawn in your schemes."

Lucifer's countenance darkened, and his voice took on an ominous tone. "You dare defy me, mortal?"

Darian's refusal had consequences. Lucifer, in his wrath, cursed Darian with a sentence of death. The curse would slowly drain his life force until he withered away into nothingness.

But Darian was not without allies in the infernal realm. King Asmodeus, recognizing the potential in the Mortal Ascendant and respecting his newfound sense of ethics, devised a cunning plan. He approached Lucifer, feigning submission, and claimed to have dealt with Darian as per Lucifer's wishes.

Lucifer, satisfied with Asmodeus's words, turned his attention elsewhere, believing the mortal to be no more.

However, Darian was far from defeated. He wandered the depths of the infernal realm, searching for a way to break the curse that threatened to consume him. It was during this desperate quest that he once again encountered Malthus, the god he had faced in battle.

Malthus, who had witnessed Darian's transformation and refusal to be a mere pawn, extended an unexpected offer of assistance. He offered to guide Darian through the treacherous Seven Layers of Hell, a journey that no mortal had survived.

With no other option, Darian accepted Malthus's aid. Together, they embarked on a harrowing odyssey through the infernal layers, facing unimaginable horrors and trials. Each layer presented its own unique challenges, from rivers of boiling blood to landscapes of eternal ice.

As they ventured deeper into the abyss, Darian's strength waned, and the curse threatened to claim him. But Malthus, despite his enigmatic nature, remained steadfast in his commitment to guide the mortal through the infernal maze.

Their journey reached its climax in the Seventh Layer, where the most powerful and malevolent beings dwelled. It was a place of unending torment and despair. But here, Darian's resolve was unwavering. He sought an audience with a god, an entity of true divinity who could protect him from Lucifer's curse.

Malthus, true to his word, arranged a meeting with a deity who resided in this hellish realm. Darian, weakened and near the brink of death, presented his case before the god.

The god, a being of radiant light in this darkest of realms, considered Darian's plea. Finally, the deity spoke, "Your path has been one of transformation and redemption, mortal. I will offer you protection, but in return, you must serve as a guardian of balance in the mortal realm. Do you accept this charge?"

Darian, his strength renewed by this divine intervention, accepted without hesitation. He had learned that true power lay not in domination but in maintaining the delicate balance between light and shadow.

With the god's blessing, Darian was shielded from Lucifer's curse, and he found himself transported back to the mortal realm. His journey was far from over, for he now carried the responsibility of safeguarding the balance between mortals and the infernal forces.

As he left the infernal realm behind, he couldn't help but wonder about the path that had led him here. He had sought godhood but had found something far more profound—a purpose that transcended both mortal and infernal realms.
