Ava's heart quickened as she stepped out of the cab, her eyes fixed on the grandeur of Peyton's wedding venue. A sprawling estate adorned with fluttering ribbons and an endless sea of white chairs, all bathed in the soft, golden light of early evening. The place was buzzing with activity, and the air was alive with laughter, music, and the clinking of glasses.
The wedding preparations were in full swing, and Ava couldn't help but feel a pang of nostalgia mixed with apprehension. She'd been away for years, building her life in a distant city, far removed from the picturesque, yet complicated, world of her childhood home.
She smoothed down her elegant navy blue dress, feeling both out of place and strangely determined. Ava knew this day wasn't about her, but her sister Peyton, who had always been the responsible one, the one who played by the rules and was now about to embark on her journey into marriage.
As Ava ventured deeper into the wedding chaos, her eyes scanned the crowd in search of familiar faces. Then, she spotted her sister, radiant in her bridal gown, surrounded by a group of giggling soon to be bridesmaids. Peyton looked every bit the blushing bride, and Ava couldn't deny the genuine happiness in her sister's eyes.
But it was the sight of one particular face that sent a shiver down Ava's spine. Amidst the sea of guests and wedding party, there she was—Cameron Carter. Peyton's best friend and the source of a long-buried heartache. Their eyes met briefly, and Ava felt a rush of emotions she hadn't expected.
The tension that had been building since she received Peyton's wedding invitation was suddenly very real. Ava knew this was going to be a wedding to remember, not only because of Peyton's happiness but also because it would force Ava to confront the past— the betrayal and the feelings she'd buried deep inside.
With a deep breath, Ava prepared herself for the days ahead, knowing that this wedding is going to be one hell of a ride.
