The first day of resumption meant dragging of tables and chairs, indistinct chatter, total disorderliness in every classroom and a very rough hall.

For Ameerah, it was the day she hated among all days. She hated arranging chairs and tables, she hated hearing her classmates talk about the holidays for she always had nothing to say. Not like she had anyone to talk to though.

Ameerah always had nowhere to go during her holidays. All she ever did was to solve past questions, deal with the house chores, help her aunt in her shop and chat endlessly with her one and only best friend, Zoya.

So while her classmates chattered away about how their holidays went, the only choice she made for herself was to concentrate on the arrangement of chairs that the others ditched.

At 8:15am, they all heard the sound of the bell for assembly. The girls would have loved to stay back and talk more but they knew what could happen if the did so.

Once they all reached the hall, Ameerah went over to join the prefects and soon the morning prayer started. This was the morning activity she loved most.

Prayer brings everyone together, she thought. She loved to see the cooperation of the students as they all lined up in the order of their classes.
The boys in their crisp white shirt and well ironed grey trousers. The girls in their neatly pinned hijabs, white long sleeved shirts, grey knee length skirts, white pop socks and sparkling white shoes.

Skyline Secondary School held a place of being one of the best schools in Ogun State. The school had a good number of students who were now engineers, doctors, nurses and other professionals from different fields. A source of envy for other schools.

After the national, state and school anthem had been sung, the Principal gave a long speech about being good students and...

Afterwards, they were all dismissed from the hall.

The first four periods went by in a blur. Teachers came, gave the scheme of work for the term, small talks and went. That was all that happened for the first four periods plus the noise making by Ameerah's classmates of course.

During break, Ameerah had no one to talk to as usual. Most of the time, she wished that Zoya was in the same school as hers.

She just couldn't make a real friend among her classmates no matter how much she tried. She already had several failed friendships through Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School. Her so-called friends always ended up ditching for reasons she didn't know. Things got worse when they received a new girl in the third grade of Junior School (JSS 3). Rasmiyah.

Rasmiyah was a beautiful, rich and posh girl which made her very magnetic. The girls got attracted to her not long after she resumed with them.
Very soon afterwards, the girls formed their own coven in which Rasmiyah was the leader. Their little clique didn't include one person of course. Ameerah.

Rasmiyah's hatred for Ameerah began to germinate when she observed that Ameerah was just so different from the other girls. Thus, the hatred that Rasmiyah had for Ameerah was soon contracted by the rest of the girls like a deadly contagious disease.
Their antipathy grew towards her when Ameerah was chosen as a prefect in JSS 3.
The girls were all green-eyed because they knew that any Junior chosen as a prefect must be a very special student which Ameerah was.

One thing that Ameerah was oblivious of was that her classmates were also jealous of her beauty.
She was indeed a rare African beauty. All dark chocolate skin, naturally perfect eyebrows, long eyelashes, perfect nose, plump lips and a spotless face. A face too spotless for a teenage girl.
Even in her school uniform, one could see the perfect body that any other girl would pray for.

Just a perfect example of beauty and brains. A chick in every boy's eyes. One more reason for her enemies to dislike her intensely.

After completing an anime drawing of herself, Ameerah decided to stretch her legs with the time left of the break. She hadn't strolled for long when she heard the Principal's deep voice.

"Hello! That SSS 2 student. Can't you hear me?"

Ameerah wheeled backwards to check and be sure that she was the one being called. She peeped through the window and the Principal said,
"Yes, you! Come in!"

She walked into the office meekly. It was then she noticed a boy standing at the right side of the Principal. The boy was in still mufti which was a clear sign that he was a newcomer.

Their eyes met and a gasp escaped her lips. It was him. The one she'd been longing to see again, right there before her eyes.
