[15] Chapter Fifteen

Veggie vs. Meat

"Oh what the hell is this?" The Sheriff said, pausing from chewing his burger while holding it as well. Clara and Stiles sat next to each other while also being across from the Sheriff. They were at the station late at night since the two teenagers thought it would be a nice surprise to bring Stiles' dad some food.

"It's a veggie burger." Stiles replied, handing the salad he had ordered for Clara, as well for himself. The two teenagers argued for ten minutes in the drive thur because Clara refused to get a salad since she herself wanted a regular cheese burger.

"I asked for a ham-burger." The Sheriff said, chewing with disgust.

"Well, veggie is healthier. We're being healthy." Stiles smiled widly while holding up his salad.

The Sheriff then opened his contained, expecting fries but instead finding baby carrots and celery sticks, "Oh, hell, why are you trying to ruin my life?"

"I'm trying to extend your life." Stiles argued back, taking a bit of his salad.

"Here Mr. Stilinski, we can share my curly fries." Clara kindly smiled as she placed the large set of fries on the table in between her and the Sheriff. Once they had gotten their food from the drive thru, Clara went into the fast-food place, after lying and saying she needed to go to the bathroom, and bought a large set of curly fries.

"Thank you, Clara." The Sheriff said in relief, popping a fry into his mouth. Stiles gaped at her, showing an over exaggerate amount of fake betrayal on his face, "You see Stiles, this is why I want to adopted her."

Clara laughed at his teasing as Stiles huffed and puffed, "Fine, eat the fries. And show us what you found."

He paused his chewing. "No, I'm not sharing confidential police work with two teenagers."

She looked over past the Sheriff and noticed the crime scene board on the wall. "Is that it on the board behind you?"

"Don't look at that."

Clara and Stiles did the exact opposite. They moved around slightly in their chair to catch a glimpse of the crime scene board. "Advert your eyes! Hey!"

"Just - it's just - I see arrows pointing at pictures."

Sheriff Stilinski sighed. "Okay, okay, stop. Fine. I found something. Mechanic and the couple who were murdered. They all had something in common."

"All three?" She questioned, raising her brows.

"Yeah. You know what I always say. One's an incident. Two's coincidence-"

"Three's a pattern." Stiles finished.

His dad nodded. "The mechanic, the husband, the wife - all the same age. All 24."

Stiles face scrunched up in confusion. "Wait, what about Mr. Lahey? I mean, Isaac's dad isn't anywhere near 24."

"Which made me think that either a, Lahey's murder wasn't connected or b, the ages were a coincidence, until I found this, which would be c." The Sheriff then pulled out a file and handed it over to Clara and Stiles. "Did you know that Isaac Lahey had an older brother named Camden?"

"Died in combat." Clara whispered, reading the bold red letters across the paper.

"But if he were alive today, take one guess as to how old he'd be." The Sheriff asked.
