Carrie was sitting on a bench in the park with a pair of headphones on, drowning out the world as she listened to her music to try and clear her mind. It's been going on almost three months since she graduated high school and hasn't had any luck with landing a job or even an internship or networking with big name writers or publishers and companies. It felt like the universe was against her and she didn't know what to do about it or who to talk to since her friends were in college and too busy to talk. The sun was starting to set on the horizon indicating that the day was almost over, Carrie being sure to get home before her curfew or her father wouldn't be too happy. Upon entering the house, she was greeted with the scent of homemade cooking which meant that her dad and sister had cooked. She wandered to the dining room where the table had already been set with plates, food and silverware. Her dad and sister were waiting at the table and smiled when they saw her

"Hey Carrie. Hungry?" He asked

"Kind of." She said and sat down in her usual spot

After conversing and unwinding from another long and uneventful day, he cleared his throat and leaned back in his chair. "I know things haven't been working out for you here so why don't you break out and try your luck in California?"

"Really? You'd be ok with me leaving?" She couldn't believe that her dad was ok with the idea of letting her leave New York to the other end of the country

"Of course. Sometimes you need to spread your wings and go for the life you want." Mr. Bradshaw stood up to get a napkin from the kitchen, excusing himself from the table

She knew that he was right and she had to take action for what she was looking for in her career which wouldn't be out here in New York. It took a bit of self convincing but after preparing for two weeks, Carrie made the drive out to California to try and chase the life she wanted though it wouldn't be easy. She arrived in Malibu after driving for nearly a week, stopping at the beach to get out of the car and relax for a little while. The salty sea air and the sound of the waves crashing onto the shoreline brought peace of mind to her just like if she were listening to her music or networking at big social events to get her name out there

The curly haired blonde had enough relaxation for now and got up after two hours from where she had been sitting on the warm sand, walking back in the direction of her car and half paying attention as her mind wandered. Carrie stumbled backwards after bumping into a tall skinny man, both apologizing though stopped when they made eye contact

"Bradshaw? Wh- what are you doing out here? I thought you were in New York?" Sebastian was shocked and confused considering they broke up so he could pursue his dreams and Carrie to chase hers and not run away from her problems

"I came out here to try to find a job, I haven't been having any luck in New York." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear

"I see...couldn't get in to NYU?" He smirked, playfully pushing her

"Yeah...and I wanted to branch off from magazine companies in Manhattan....How's the skateboard business going?" Carrie couldn't bring herself to look at him for more than a minute after how they left things

"Great! It's been super successful, I'm a little overwhelmed with orders right now but I wouldn't have it any other way." He smiled, parting a hand through his short blonde hair

"That's good to hear. Are you seeing anyone?" She tucked a strand of hair out of her face

"Actually I am. She's been super supportive of my business and everything that's going on with my parents. I don't know what I'd do without her."

"O-oh. I'm happy for you, Sebastian."

"Do you have a place to stay? If not, you can crash with me at my apartment."
