♡ANAGAPESIS♡
I was taken aback when he asked, "Who are you?" His confused gaze left me feeling uneasy as if the ground had shifted beneath me.
"Sunghoon, you must be joking, right?" I responded, my unease growing as he suddenly failed to recognize me.
"I'm sorry, I don't know you. Yeji, can you take me back to my room?" Sunghoon's words stung like a sharp dagger.
"Oh my God, this is incredibly painful," I thought to myself.
Yeji came towards me, offering a comforting hug and whispering apologies in my left ear. She managed a small, sympathetic smile as she touched my cheek and gently pushed Sunghoon's wheelchair toward his hospital room.
"He can't remember anything from the past five years. The accident caused significant damage to his head. The doctors said it's a miracle he survived. Now, he has a brand new chapter to begin. Please, at least now, let my son go," Mr. Park, Sunghoon's father, explained as he walked toward Sunghoon's room.
My world felt like it was collapsing around me, replaying Sunghoon's inability to recognize me over and over.
Realizing that I couldn't bear to stay there any longer without breaking down, I hurriedly left the hospital. As I stepped outside, I spotted Jake coming in. Without hesitation, he approached me and enveloped me in a comforting hug.
"Jake, he can't remember me," I whispered, my voice filled with despair. Confusion washed over Jake's face, and when he grasped the truth, he embraced me tightly once more.
"Lia, everything will be alright. Don't worry. He'll recover; it's likely because of the accident," Jake reassured me, his concern evident in his eyes.
I couldn't help but pour out my emotions to him. "What does 'alright' even mean, Jake? Sunghoon... he can't remember me."
Jake looked at me with a deep sense of concern as his younger sister once again broke down in front of him.
"Jake, why does it always seem like I'm the one who has to endure all of this? Does the world hate me this much?"
