Birds chirp as the morning breeze blows past the trees. The still calmness of the surrounding undergrowth is majestic in its unbothered beauty. A figure silently strolls through the greenery, like a shade, silent and without a word. The shade hums lightly to itself as it strolls through the forest.
It stops.
The silence around is deafening. The shade turns to its side and stands silently on the moss-covered side of a tree. It reaches out to its opposite side gripping a shoulder.
"JESUS!"
Keion jumps from his hiding spot like a frog. The shocked boy holding his chest from the surprise catching his breath. Agatha stands confused.
"Agatha, that is 50 percent the way that tag is played, the scaring the soul out of me part, Is NOT!"
She doesn't react for a moment, but then gives a small smile. Keion sighs and smiles back.
"I hope that your skills in scaring, are as good as your RUNNING!"
Keion roars as Agatha bolts off. He chases after her through the lush forest. She runs full speed pass trees and bushes. The sound of Keion's screaming behind her as the breeze flies through her hair and face. The warmth of the wind brushing pass her.
Agatha finally finds a hiding place with Keion following behind, she quickly gets behind a bush. Catching her breath loudly she looks around the tree, Keion in sight. He Looks around with a silly but wild grin on his face. He stops for a moment, looking around inhaling and exhaling like an animal, making his stomach inflate like a balloon. Agatha holds in a chuckle, but a giggle escapes her smile. Keion freezes then slowly turns to Agathas direction, with a crooked smile on his face he says.
"Hoooolllaaaaa NNiiinnnnoooOOOO!"
Keion screams like a mad child as he rushes Agatha. He jumps over the bush and pounces on her, lightly picking her up from the ground from her waist.
"IGOTCHA!IGOTCHA!IGOTCHA!IGOTCHA!"
He buries his face in her back as he shouts. Agatha smile intenses into spouts of giggling. He puts her down on the ground. Agatha turns to Keion with a smile on her face meeting his.
"Better than reading books all day on a Saturday huh?"
Agatha shakes her head slightly. Warmth goes through her head to her toes as she can't stop smiling. Keion dusts himself off and Agatha mimics his movements to both of their enjoyment. She peeks at her watch for a instant and realizes the time, the moment is put to a sudden halt as Agatha reverts to her silent demeanor. Keion puts two and two together and calms down slightly himself.
"Time to go?"
She looks to him with her casual blank stare reply. He nods with an accepting smile on his face and reaches out his hand. Agatha, though still reluctant, takes Keions hand and they take their exit out of the local forest. Though it's been merely a short time since Agatha has met Keion, she can't remember a time where she has smiled so hard her cheeks hurt. This is the best she has ever had to having fun with a friend.
The outgoing boy continues with his spouts of non-sense, casually frolicking about with his silent companion until he notices a blemish on Agathas hand. It didn't look like dirt or mud, but a faded bruise. He stops his spouting and slows down his stride and gains a calmer voice.
"Agatha, I know I don't know you that well, but are you okay?"
Agatha doesn't respond as she keeps walking, but she does lower her head slightly. Keion thinks for a moment trying to break the tension made, then gains an idea. Agatha looks to him curiously with Keion wearing a smile on his face.
"You know, my grandmother wouldn't mind having some company for a little while on weekends..."
She thinks for a long hard minute, Keion taking her silence as his answer replies.
"I'll just let you think about it, I know your parents are real buzzkills sometimes."
Agatha lightly grips her hand on Keions as they continue on the forest path. He walks for a moment silently. She sees the look on Keions face in thought and worry. Agatha has been to others houses and social places, but always for her father's work events, not really meant to do much other than show off her accolades as a student to other adults and her mother always kept her out of sight.
"Always... Alone..."
Keion perks up as he hears a small voice, Agatha freezes in place at what she just said. She turns her head to Keion, his concern spelled clear on his face, but doesn't turn to her back, as they continue on. Agathas heart beats like a war drum in her chest as the silence is killing her. Keion then exhales and shakes off his feelings and gives Agatha a bright smile.
"Then let's change that, Agy."
Agatha heart calms and her grip tightens on his hand. The two make it back to the main street playground.
"This is it. if you ever have the time, come over whenever, we can hangout as much as you want.... Until my grandma says it's pass my bedtime that is."
He says chuckling. Keion releases Agathas hand, but Agatha doesn't release her grip. Keion notices this and turns to Agatha. The raven-haired girl looks into the eyes of the rowdy young boy. Agatha tries to form words, but they are stuck at the bottom of her stomach as she stammers and murmurs to herself. Keion stands confused tilting his head. Agatha stops for a moment, and simply walks into his chest. Keion understands what she wants, and with another bright smile on his face, he wraps his arms around her for a warm embrace, rocking side to side with a smile.
Agathas face grows into a small smile, the warmth of kindness from her friend grips her heart. She lightly pushes Keion away and turns to walk home herself, Keion watching as her hair sways in the wind. Keion turns home also, the shade of his face turning a slight red.
