Avery's POV
A couple of days later, I am still in my trial which is expected. But today is the first game of the season. I am so damn nervous because I've been warned by the office staff that game days are known as grim reaper days. It's going to be a long day, I was told to come in at 9 a.m. and will probably go home around 10 hours later. It's only 7 but I am grateful for that extra hour of sleep. Right as I turn off my alarm, my phone begins to buzz, it's Willow.
"Aren't you working right now?" I question because that girl loves the morning shift especially when it's rush hour around this time.
"Yes ma'am but I had to call you to inform you of some not-so-good news." She claims with a certain tone in her voice which I rarely get.
"Shit is everything okay? Do you need me to come down to the shop?" I asked while quickly sitting up in my bed
"Yeah, I was talking to Dave who you know is friends with James", Willow exclaims, " And he went out to the bars last night and saw James with another girl."
"Ha ha ha you are very funny. James was working last night plus he's also a white brunette man. There are hundreds of those guys in the world and they all look alike" I say while giggling at her amusing claim.
"Dave swears to God that it was him. Here let me get Dave on the phone". Willow states firmly while I hear muffled noises through the phone of Willow handing it over to Dave.
"Hey Avery, I am not lying. I was the DD last night and he was with this blonde girl with a neck tattoo. From the distance, the tattoo looked very bad and skanky, if that helps at all. They were grinding up on each other and mackin' on each other." Dave confidently exclaims.
My heart drops.
The lead singer in James' band has a neck tattoo and she's fucking blonde. I always have this feeling in the bottom of my stomach that she had a thing for James but he always said I was crazy and I was the only girl in his life. He'd also emphasized that he's not even into blondes which was a way to reassure me. THAT FUCKING DOUCHE. Out of shock, I ended the call to somehow take in this information. I immediately look at my nightstand and I see the damn framed picture of us.
Quickly I pick it up and throw it at the wall, glass soon shatters everywhere but I don't give a shit. The tears begin to fall and they keep going. I loved him so much and gave so much of me to him. I have helped him through the worst of times, always sacrificing my struggles to make sure he was okay. Four fucking years down the drain. I feel like a fool especially because I have felt it's been going on for months but I have been so damn stupid to see it. James kept emphasizing his stress with the band and finding connections to play at more theaters, as well as the tour added more stress on him. I let all those wear pass because I thought he was busy and burned out from all the shows he had over these past months.
I should've known, but I didn't. I soon got up and got in the shower. I can't miss work today, I am not gonna let this fucker ruin my chances of getting this job. After about a good 15-minute cry session shower, I get out and begin getting ready to leave. I hear a knock at my door. Fuck that's him, he texted me yesterday he wanted to stop by with a gift to get me ready for the big day. What a lying bullshit little fucking bitch he is. I make my way to the front door and aggressively open the door.
"Hey babe, I got you a coffee and your favorite bagel from Bagel Barn" James states while finally looking up at me with a concerned face, "Are you okay Av? Why are your eyes red?'.
"You don't get to call me that," I say, "Don't even think of taking a step into the apartment"
"Huh, what's going on? You're not acting like yourself" He asks timidly.
