As the first rays of the summer sun paint the sky pink and gold, I can't help but feel the familiar anticipation that comes with time. It's that magical time of year when everything seems possible and the world is our playground. However, this summer is different. It was a summer I will never forget, a summer that would change everything.

I've always been the kind of girl who watches summer romance movies on the sidelines or snuggled into my bed sheets, content in the world of books and daydreams. And as I look out the window of the car at the beach in front of me, I know that this summer has promises, secrets and love stories waiting to be written into the pages of my life.

As we passed through the city, we felt like we were driving slowly. My stupid brother, Mick. He drives like an old man, and i'm the one who can't drive.

"Drive faster idiot"

I kick him, crossing my legs again and turning my head back.

"This is as fast as this car goes Bev, it's 5 minutes" He scowled, slapping my foot away.

I scoff, rolling my eyes
"It feels like forever with your driving"

"Mhmm"
He turned on the radio, completely drowning out my voice. bobbing his head. he turns to me quickly, grinning as he sees me with an annoyed face

As he turns up the radio, I turn to my mom in the backseat. She was sleeping peacefully with her legs on the seat. I turned back to the front seeing as we are pulling up into the summer house.
I bang on the seat like a child, seeing it get closer and closer.
Mick turns down the radio, slowly pulling up to the house.

The "summer house" was like the children's house we started going to when I was twelve years old. It belongs to my father's friend. We went there with our cousins and friends, but since the divorce, my father's family has been cut off from us and my mom isn't as close with her family.
The only reasons i love the house is because of the beach it's placed on, I love to go swimming in them. There's many shops as well.

My smile increased as we finally parked by the small navy blue car.
We got out of the car and grabbed our bags as my Aunt Kait ran out of the house, arms open for a hug.
"Beverly!! Hi my darling how are you?"
She squeezed me, basically suffocating me. Mick chuckled to himself as he unpacked his bags.

"Was the car ride good?"
She lowered her voice
"Or did Mick still drive like a grandma"

His head shoot up, giving a stank eye to Kait as she grinned playfully.

I laughed, looking back at her.
"It was good, he did drive like a grandma though.."

"Oh my god-"
He grabs a small bag, throwing it over his shoulder, stomping his way into the house.
Aunt Kait turns to me.
"Same rooms as always of course. Sadly your cousin isn't here so you have your room all to yourself this summer"
I nod, grabbing my bag. I head inside looking around.
Everything is different, a good different obviously. It seems more welcoming. With my dad he was always a horrible guy to decorate with. He hated everything.. When he did like something it would be to dull or filthy, but whatever.
