My first day as a freshman couldn't have been worse. I'm short, shy, and not pretty-not ugly but not pretty either- my sister wishes I never existed because she's a senior now. And when I say shy I don't mean just quiet, I mean I'm too scared to say excuse me to someone who's standing in front of my locker shy. I just stand there and wait until they notice I exist or they leave.
I only stand at 5 foot 1 inch so I can't reach the top of my locker. So to compromise I put all my books on the bottom. It worked well until one day I squatted down to reach my books and someone didn't see me and kicked me, knocking me over. My face was so red you could've cooked a hot dog on it.
I would have to sit in the front row in all my classes because I'm too short to see past people in front of me. Because I'm in the front I make awkward eye contact with the teacher, which in their minds apparently means they need to call on me to answer questions, which I respond with a confused "I don't know."
The next few months of freshman year went about the same as the first day. Ending with me being terrible miserable. Which eventually got ahold of me. And I was diagnosed with depression in January of that year.
I then went to a therapist once a week, and took medication daily. After about a year of going to therapy and taking my medication I noticed my parents were fighting more than normal. I thought I was the problem which worsened my depression for a while. And caused my parents to fight more.
I asked my dad one night if I was the cause of the fighting. But he just smiled kissed my head and said, "I love you." The next week I asked my mom the same question hoping for an answer. She only looked at me with pitiful eyes and said, "No, don't worry."
It only caused me to worry more.
After two years I was off medication and only went to therapy once a month. My parents still fought. But it wasn't about me.
It was about my mom's son. My half brother that she had when she was 18. The only thing I know about him is that he has an adoptive family, he's 23 years old and his name is Daniel.
