"Okay, class settles down," Mrs. Jada says, trying to get the students to quiet down. "Today we're going to learn about clans and when they were formed. Does anyone have questions before we start?"

Elizabeth raised her hand. "Yeah, I have a question. How come some people have magic and others don't?"

Mrs. Jada smiled. "That's a brilliant question, Elizabeth. We're going to cover today's lesson."

"Sweet, maybe I will finally understand what the heck is going on around here," Elizabeth muttered under her breath, slumping back into her chair.

"So we all know about Lyndom Crandall, the founder of this continent, right?" Mrs. Jada began writing the name on the board.

"Well, according to legend, Lyndom Crandull, when the people were about to die of hunger, Lyndom went out to the forest and got far from the north. He found seeds and food that he never saw in his life," Mrs. Jada continued, her voice animated.

"He brought them back to his people and shared them, but something strange happened. 19 children gained magic power."

"Why only children?" Said a voice from the back of the class.

"That's a good question," Mrs. Jada said, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "The legend doesn't specify, but many scholars believe it has something to do with the innocence and openness of a child's spirit."

William said, "So, did the magic get passed down through generations by those children?"Mrs. Jada nodded.

"Well, yes, and no. After that event, more people started gaining magic power from the food they ate, but soon food just stopped giving people magic power."

"Damn, you got to hate global warming," Elizabeth chuckled a ripple of laughter through the class.

Mrs. Jada sent Elizabeth a warning gaze before continuing, "Historians believe that the magic linked to the food consumed was a one-time event that occurred due to unknown reasons."

"What happened to those 19 children?" someone else asked.

"They grew up to become royals of the clan."

"Wait, we only have 13 clans."

"Right, some clans have like two or more royals."

"You know Charle is a descendant of one of those children, right?" Elizabeth interjected.

"Elizabeth! We don't talk about people's personal histories without their permission," Mrs. Jada scolded, but Charles only shrugged.

"It's fine; it's not like it's a secret or anything," he said.

"Right then, moving on." Mrs. Jada brought the class back to attention. "The Royals are known as the Goldnan. Lena let's say that if one of the Goldnan Lena dies at a young age or doesn't have any kids who have the same power as them, the surrounding people who have similar power as them will turn into stones, and there is no fixing it.

"All this talk of magic, clans, and stones sure is a lot to digest," William said, rubbing his temples.

"Kind of makes you wish we still ate magic food. Maybe it would make all this easier to understand."

"Yeah, just don't forget to chew before you start levitating or something," Elizabeth interjected with a cheeky grin, earning some chuckles from the class.

"Alright, alright," Mrs. Jada broke in, holding up her hands. "Goldenan Lena is an advanced topic for another day. Let's stick to the basics for now."

William looks at the board and hears Mrs. Jada's words. Turning to stone, it was just like his dream; he couldn't believe the coincidence. Was there a connection between the history of this world and his dream that there is more to this world than what his eyes can't see?________________________________
