Aurora walks through the museum, not really paying attention to the teacher. She already knew why they were here, and didn't need to know much more."We're going by the buddy system while we're here today. So pick a buddy." The teacher says. It was always a problem for the trio because.. well, they're a trio.
However, Aurora wanted to get to know the newest student in their grade. "You guys go ahead, I'll find a different partner." She tells her friends, walking in the direction of the girl.
"I'm Aurora. Do you wanna be partners?" She asks her. "Uh.. sure."
"Do you wanna meet my friends?" She asks the girl. She gives the same response. They walk up to Marshall and Gilbert.
"Guys, this is Amy. Amy, this is Gilbert and Marshall." She gives a quick introduction. They wave to each other, and it's a bit awkward at first.
But eventually, Marshall speaks up. "So, you're the new girl, right?"
"I moved from Rockport with my dad and my Step-Dave over the summer." She responds. While Aurora's friends were confused, Rory understood perfectly.
"My two dads split up a few years ago. Pop lives back in Rockport and Dad married Step-Dave." Aurora gets visibly nervous at the name Rockport.
That's where she was gonna move to in a few days. She wasn't ready to move her friends yet.
"Anyway, hi." Amy finishes. "So, um, how- how do you like it here?" Marshall asks her. "I hate it. This town is super boring and my friends are all back in Rockport."
Aurora spaces out for a minute. Is this how she was gonna feel? The roles between Amy and Aurora were reversed.
Amy hates it here and wants to go back to Rockport, while Aurora is gonna hate it there and want to come back here.
"Dracula, huh?" She hears Amy. "I know everyone's batty about Lugosi. I much prefer Christopher Lee. I mean, Horror of Dracula? Lugosi didn't even have fangs." Amy rambles.
"Great. Another one." Aurora stomps on Gilbert's foot. "Have you seen the new Warthead?" Marshall asks.
"Of course! That ending was gore-tastic. Especially-" She gets cut off. "Oh, no spoilers! I missed the ending." Marshall says.
Aurora spaces out again. She didn't like how well they were getting along. She knew why, but she would never admit it.
Maybe if she met someone who couldn't talk she would, but even if there was, he wouldn't feel the same way.
"I do." Someone brings her back to reality. "Give it back." Marshall and Aurora say in unison. "Permission slip said no snacks. I'm helping you hide the evidence."
"That's Todd," Gilbert informs Amy. "In third grade, Aurora pushed Marshall, who knocked into Todd. He fell in his own birthday cake. It was hilarious."
"I see, uh... excuse me for a moment." Amy walks over to them. "Hi, I'm Amy. You're Todd, right?"
The trio watches as she has a conversation with Todd, somehow convincing him to give the candy back. "That was amazing." Aurora compliments.
"Your candy is safe from now on." Amy gives the candy back to Marshall. Aurora got that funny feeling again, and she didn't like it.
"Let's go!" The teacher shouts. They walk into the Tomb exhibit, but again, Aurora already knows why they are there and doesn't care about anything else.
"A sarcophagus?" Amy answers says. Aurora starts paying attention again. "Excellent. A sarcophagus is a protective shell. Inside, it holds a wooden coffin with the mummy."
"Is there a real mummy in there?" Marshall asks the lady. "No. I'm afraid not..." She trails off. "Because it's right over here." She brings them to the mummy.
"Way cool," Marshall says, looking at the mummy. "As you can see, this coffin has a lot of bling. Based on that, archeologists deduce that she was a princess."
Aurora felt eyes on her, she assumed it was because she had the same name as a princess. She looked around for the eyes, and it was Marshall.
She gave him a small smile, which he returned. She looks back at the lady. "Any questions so far?"
"Don't they come alive at night and eat people's brains?" Todd asks, thinking he's being funny. Aurora rolls her eyes.
"Only in horror movies. Thankfully, we're not in one." The lady responds. "I noticed there are two sarcophagi and two platforms, but only one mummy. Shouldn't there be another mummy?" Aurora asks.
"You are very observant. There was a second mummy in the tomb, believed to be a high priest. They were in love." Aurora furrows her eyebrows.
"But their families were bitter rivals. So, their attendants conspired to entomb them together, so they could be with each other in death."
"So romantic in a very emo-goth kinda way," Amy says. "Isn't it? Sadly, it didn't last. In 1925 the tomb was raided, and they were whisked away to different museums." Aurora looks to Marshall, but he doesn't look back.
"Our exhibit was all set to reunite them for the first time in almost a century. But the high priest's mummy mysteriously disappeared on its way here."
"So it was stolen?" Aurora asks. "Sadly, yes. So, if any of you come across a mummy, please call our mummy hotline."
Everyone laughs. "Now before we move on, we have a full-sized reproduction of an Egyptian coffin, if anyone would like to see what it's like to be in one."
"Picture time!" The teacher shouts. Gilbert and Marshall ran towards the coffin, while Aurora and Amy slowly walked behind.
"What's it like in Rockport?" She asks Amy. "Well-" She gets cut off. "Aurora come on!" Marshall shouts. "Amy you too!" Gilbert shouts.
Aurora goes up there, while Amy stays down. Aurora just stands in front of the coffin, laughing at the two behind her. The teacher takes the picture, and Aurora helps her friends get out.
