*~ Chapter 23 ~*

"Kezia!" Emma squeeled in excitement as she threw her arms around me. I hesitantly returned the hug and couldn't help but smile at her exuberance. Then I remembered that I was about to destroy the world as she knew it and my smile quickly faded.

"It's good to see  you too." I said quietly.

"I'm so glad you invited me over!" she gushed. "I can't wait to meet your friends and see your house and - oh my gosh is this your car?! It's gorgeous!"

Distracted mid-sentence she ran over to get a closer look at my jeep, my presence forgotten.

"Did someone say gorgeous?" Chad appeared out of nowhere, a dazzling yet cocky grin on his face. I shot him a look, but he only glanced at me his eyes briefly conveying his seriousness before returning his gaze to Emma who was staring at him completely starstruck. He shot her a wink and she giggled looking at him with interest. I'm sure my mouth was hanging open in shock. How could anyone possibly be attracted to Chad?

"Emma Yagerman," she said, holding out a hand. "And you are?"

Chad reached out and grasped her hand, flipping it over to place a kiss on her knuckles. "Chad milady."

Emma blushed and gave him a shy grin. I rolled my eyes, "Alright, enough of that. Chad is here to park your car for you."

Emma smiled, "Valet service?"

"Anything for you." Chad smoothly responded. Ugh, gag me. Emma held out her keys to Chad who accepted them and exited with a low bow. I looped my arm through Emma's and dragged her in the opposite direction.

"What a gentlemen." Emma commented, fanning her flushed face. If only you knew, I thought. The real reason Chad offered to park her car was in order to remove it as a possible escape if she didn't take the news so well and decided to run. On foot we can catch her and bring her back, but a car was a much different story. Now to figure out how to break it to her gently.

"I'm so excited to spend the day with you." Emma was saying, "I know we only just met, but I feel like I've known you my whole life. I just know we are going to be the best of friends!"

Well, there's no time like the present. "Emma? There's something I need to tell you. The truth is, we have known each other our whole lives, in fact when we were kids we were best friends."

Her eyes widened, "Really? I'm so sorry Kezia, with my accident I just didn't remember you at all. You must have been terribly offended when I acted like I didn't know you."

I shrugged, "Well, yes. A little hurt that you didn't recognize me. But Emma, there is something you need to know about me and about yourself too."

I looked over and I had her full attention so taking a deep breath I gave it to her straight. "We're werewolves."

"Huh?"

Seeing she hadn't run away in fear yet I hurried to tell her the rest. "Really! Your parents were the alphas of the pack and my parents the betas and we were one of the strongest werewolf packs in Wyoming. We were best friends until the hunters showed up one night and attacked us, you and I escaped but then we got caught and were separated and-"

Her laughter interrupted me. "Very funny Kezia, you almost had me going there for a minute. Who knew you were such a joker!" She slapped my shoulder playfully, but when I didn't join in with her amusement her expression sobered.

"It's the truth Emma." I said.

She scoffed, "You're crazy. There is no such thing as werewolves."
