One year, six months, one week, three days. That's how old Melanie was. She had had an assortment of powers that tired Mr Plant and Argos out. From sneezing fire to crying storms, from a gum wrapper growing to the size of Lucy
(She had fun with it) to objects floating around the house, from teleportation to explosions, and much, much more, it seemed as though it would never stop.
Until three days ago.
"It's alright," Argos said, pacing back and forth in the bedroom. Mr Plant was sitting on the bed, watching a sleeping Melanie in her crib.
"I called a doctor. He said it's alright for babies to be late on things. Their powers stop for a few days, but they'll pick back up as a singular power."
Mr Plant knew Argos was panicking. They stood up and scooped him up in a giant bear hug. Argos accepted it gratefully.
"I'm just...worried," Argos said finally into Mr Plant's chest. Mr Plant stroked his hair.
Argos looked into their face. It seemed to read Everything will be okay. And as he stared into their face, he knew it would be true.
The silence was broken by Melanie cooing from her bed. Argos walked over to pick her up.
Argos started. "M-Mr Plant..." Mr Plant walked over. There, sitting in their daughter's crib, was Melanie. But...not Melanie.
She giggled at Argos's shocked face. She had sprouted eyes all over her body, looking like her father.
Melanie looked over at Mr Plant, and all the eyes went away. Instead, they were replaced by flower petals.
Argos looked over at Mr Plant, who just stared.
"Well, I don't need to worry anymore," Argos said dryly.
Mr Plant looked back at Melanie, who was mixing the petals with the eyes, and making faces.
"Shapeshifting," Argos breathed. "She is definitely going to be a handful."
