The elven kingdom needed a ruler, but Kylie knew she would be better off alongside the warriors. At least when her brother took the throne as the new High Elf King, he gave her the title of Protector of the kingdom.
Kylie's main duty was to make sure no intruders were to get in, so when two individuals with faces hidden approached, she demanded to know who they were.
Prince Kendra and Princess Kenny, from the rival human kingdom home to the evil wizard twins. The two royals pleaded to be allowed in, explaining that they had escaped from the other kingdom and were in need of help.
"If I let you in, you are to behave. I will not hesitate to toss you back out," the protector warned.
The prince and princess promised to behave, and were granted access. With some convincing from Kylie, the High Elf King agreed they could both stay despite various warnings they were up to no good.
The warnings were right, but...only one had bad intentions.
Prince Kendra had been as unfortunately tricked as the rest of them all, surprised and betrayed as Princess Kenny ran off with a priceless relic of the kingdom.
Kylie was very ashamed and upset, and furious she had let herself be tricked so easily. Since the prince made no effort to escape he was taken down to the dungeon and locked in, and made no protest or plea.
The elves weren't cruel, they made sure Prince Kendra would stay alive, but he would say nothing.
"Kylie, you should talk to him," High Elf King Kyle requested of her sister.
She scoffed. "Do you want information or something? Or should I just ask 'Why did you let your cousin trick you so easily'?"
Her brother rolled his eyes. "The only thing he asks is to see you."
Kylie didn't expect that kind of answer, and decided for the safety of the kingdom to go see what the prince wanted, so with the company of Warrior Stacy, her best friend, the protector headed down to the dungeon.
"Are you absolutely sure you want me to lock you in with him?" the raven-haired warrior asked.
"I have a weapon if needed," the redhead responded. She was lying, but fists could always work instead of a blade.
Also, Kylie really didn't think Prince Kendra would do anything. To her or anyone else in the kingdom, if his reaction from that dreadful night was anything to go by.
Stacy unlocked the door so the protector could slip in and it was shut just as quickly. The warrior then headed up the stairs, stopping halfway so she would be able to hear her name being shouted.
"Hello again," Prince Kendra smiled.
Kylie narrowed her eyes, suspiciously. "Why did you feel the need to drag me all the way down here?"
The answer didn't come right away. Instead, the prince flirted with her with such terrible lines she couldn't help but laugh which led to further conversation.
"Are you okay, Kylie? You've been down here a while," Stacy said as she returned.
"Give over the keys, I can let myself out," Kylie replied, holding a hand out through the gap between the bars.
The warrior hesitated, but complied. She did trust the redhead, after all the times she's helped her out. It was the protector who got her the position of Warrior after all.
When left alone once more, Kylie stood up with the keys in hand. "I'll see if I can get you out of here. If you don't want to leave, you're sharing a room with me."
The resulting comment from the prince made the redhead scoff, but smile.
"And to answer your question," Prince Kendra called out as Kylie was leaving, "I dragged you all the way down here because you are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, with a personality to match."
......
That had been a good two years ago. It made Kylie smile, thinking about it again.
"How are you, Princess?" Stacy teased, laughing. "Your prince is waiting for you. Ready now?"
"I've been ready for ages, he's the one who takes longer than me. And I'm not a princess yet, we need to get married first," the redhead reminded her.
"Well, the kingdom has been calling you that since the engagement announcement. Especially your brother," the warrior pointed out.
Kylie would need to remember to tell Kyle's not-so secret crush the big secret then.
Until then, she was going to marry her Prince Kendra.
