The Last Day

CHAPTER 1

Sitting at work. Papers are all over the desk. All Jet can think about is the reality that Jamie is gone. Why? Why him? Why Jamie? she thought. It never hit her. She sat and wondered why he just wanted to die so efficiently. She wondered to herself, maybe she'd never understand. For an instant, her brain shocked back into reality.

Reyes walked into the task force and sat on his desk, not saying a word. For a moment there was silence until he couldn't hold.

Reyes: How are you feeling?

Jet: *knocked out of her reflection* I-I think I'm doing okay. "Just okay?" She thought to herself, "I'm not okay, not okay AT ALL, filled with anger, pain, hurt, and confusion. Why didn't he say I love you back? Why just why?"

*Reyes voice in echo*

Reyes: Jet? Jet!

*she turns her head and switches back to reality for the third time*

Jet: Sorry, I was just thinking.

Reyes: "Do you want to talk?," he says as he just looks at his co-worker and friend.

Jet: "No, it's fine," she replies, with a pale look and no emotion. She wondered if she'd ever be okay.

*Reyes can sense that Jet is still taking Jamie's death hard. He knew that everyone was taking it hard. He remembered their last conversation about Jamie wanting to go see the Northern Lights.*

Reyes: Jet, it's okay if you're hurt, in pain, and can't wrap your head around it. I know you don't want to talk but, I don't like seeing you like this. Please Jet, are you sure you don't want to talk?

Jet hesitates for a moment. Wondering what she'd say.

Jet: Okay.. we can chat

Before she can tell, Ayanna walks in with a cup of coffee. She looks a bit weary.

Ayanna: "Morning' guys!,"she says in a fatigued tone as she steps steadily into the task force before she goes to her desk, puts her belongings on the desk, and sets herself up for the day.

Reyes: "Mornin' Sarge!," he replies as he walks into her office while she's still setting up.

Ayanna: Hey Reyes, how ya doing?!

Reyes: I think I'm doing good, you?

Ayanna: "Exhausted, but well," she responds with a grin. "Something you need?," she wondered.

Reyes: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, have you noticed anything odd with Jet?

Ayanna: You mean like, her emotions over the last few weeks or?

Reyes: I don't know but something is just off. It's like she's still taking Jamie's death hard.

Ayanna: Well have you tried talking to her?

Reyes: I have, but it's not going well.

Ayanna: "Okay, later I want you to set up a little meaningful time with Jet and let her talk to you about how she feels if she doesn't feel comfortable talking to anyone else in the department, and that way she doesn't have to keep all her emotions in," she proceeds.

Reyes: "Copy that Sarge," he replies.

Ayanna: I have to go to a meeting but let me know how it goes!

Reyes: You got it sarge, he replies as he walks out the room back into the task force's main room.
