Thursday 20th November, 8:57pm

Hammering down, the rain fell violently and drowned the pavements in sorrows. Ominous clouds littered the sky, claustrophobically encapsulating the city. Flashes of lightning struck through the sky like knives. Thunder resounded throughout the muted streets of a city that was so bustling and dynamic just a few hours prior.

It had been a dormant day at 'work' - almost too sedentary. As I was packing up, a sickening, dreadful feeling filled me: the alarm was going off. I just did not expect my handset to be the chosen one lighting up in red. As I picked up the phone, I froze. Nothing could prepare me for what chaos was about to ensue

What happened next was a blur. A cacophony of screaming and crying muffled by the open air pierced through my ears. Desperation. Pain.

Beating out of my chest, my heart thumped - sending fear coursing through my veins. Numbness oscillated through me as a surreal, deja-vu feeling flooded my body. I was doing this again but not for myself, for someone whose name was unknown to me. A true stranger. I had to pinch myself: was I really doing this?
