~Six years later~
"Today's the day I marry my best friend," Lillian began.
She was standing at the alter, facing her fiancé, and reading her vows.
"I can't tell you what a privilege it has been to grow up with you. You've been my best friend since the day I was born, before I even knew what friendship was. You looked out for me, protected me, and cared for me all my life. Thank you for that.
Josiah smiled, making Lillian's heart flutter the way it did six years ago.
"You have always been everything I've ever wanted," she continued. "Even in our darkest moments, always hold on to this: you are my happily-ever-after. Today that's truer than ever."
The crowd watched in reverence as Josiah pulled a note out of his suit jacket and began to read aloud.
"Lillian, you are my safe haven. You are my hiding place. You are my rescue, my comfort, and most of all, my love. Somehow when I'm with you, all my anxieties go away. With you, I know I can be myself and no matter what, you'll still love me. That's what's so amazing about you, I think, because normal people couldn't put up with a guy like me."
The crowd laughed, and he went on.
"But you are not a normal person, Lillian Elaina. You are the most extraordinary person I've ever met. You make me see things about myself that I can't see; you stand by me when I'm a lost cause; and you always hold on. Nothing is impossible with you by my side. You started out as my best friend, and that's exactly what you are today. I love you, Lili, and I promise to love you extraordinarily."
There wasn't a dry eye in the chapel. Their love was something out of a fairytale. Not many people had a love like theirs.
As they walked down the aisle arm in arm, now officially Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Scott, everyone in the chapel could say that they were the perfect couple. There was no denying it.
