Oskura trudged home in the rain, her school clothes drenched from the rain water.
As she approached her house she stopped and thought about it.
It was cold and wet out here - sure - but was it any better inside the house?
She shivered and reluctantly stepped into her house, planning on quickly going up to her room: to avoid her parents. It was late afternoon, and they were bound to have been drinking.
She heard multiple bangs and shouting from her living room. They were obviously preoccupied fighting. She sighed.
Middle school was nearing the end of the school year, and since it was her last year their - she would not have an excuse to leave the house.
As she entered her room she immediately flopped onto the bed. Her room had ripping wallpaper, exposing the brick behind it. It's window was old and slightly cracked and the furniture had painting peeling off with age.
She grabbed her phone, groaning at her homework - and remembering her detention for not doing the homework.
How was she meant to explain to her parents she got another detention? The punishments are even worse when they have been drinking...

.Oskura must have blacked out because when she looked at her clock it was already morning.
She slowly got out of bed , carefully listening for her parents.
The house was silent and she could hear her father snoring on the sofa. Her mother must have made him sleep there. Again.
Groggy, she put on her school clothes, sliding into the old uniform.
She made her way down the stairs as quietly as possible, picking up her bag and shoving books into it, not looking which they were.
She quickly went outside of the door, the cold of fall surprising her.
She began walking to school, contemplating if going was worth it.
Before she could decide, she found herself in front of the school gates. She sighed and walked in, her head down as she plugged in her earphones.
She shoved her hand into her pocket, walking to her class as the music blasted into her ears.
As she walked through the doors to the classroom, she quickly scanned the classroom.
Miss wasn't here yet so he rest of the class was messing around. It seemed everyone else was already here.
She sat down in her seat, slouching as she took out her earphones.
"Hi oskura" came a familiar voice behind her.
She turned and it was one of her friends, smiling warmly at her.
"Hey lila" she said as they fist-bumbed.
"Oi, oskura chic" she turned, looking square in the eye at Maxi. "You going to grace us with your ugly presence once again?"
His friends laughed beside him. Oskura curled her fists. Her and maxi hadn't yet fought but she was sure she would win if they did.
"Your telling me I'm ugly when you obviously haven't looked in the mirror for years - oh wait, you can't because every mirror you look at breaks." She hit back.
The whole class was silent as they listened to their heated exchange.
"Says the one who hasn't showered in a week." He fired back at her.
"Says the one with that deformed rat looking ass" she hissed.
"Says the one built like a half chewed worm." He slurred.
